NTW also looks pretty much nothing like her comic counterpart and has completely different powers and a different personality to boot. Yet many considered her to be a highlight of the first film.

Caliban kinda had the chalk white skin so its not eXactly a first in the series. for obvious reasons, putting a chalk white paint over Zazie would have resulted in a lot of criticism. Which they should have considered when they were doing the casting for the character. As someone who knew Domino for over a decade this is a missed opportunity. Right now Zazie just looks like Domino in name only or some alternate version, and that's not a good thing.

What criticism? Nobody was criticized because Zoe Saldana was green in Guardians of the galaXy.

Where was the criticism when Idris Elba was pale in Star Trek into Darkness? Stop engaging in reactionary fantasy.

Moreover, it's entirely possible they were intending to pale her up, but found that it looks stupid much later in the process.

But isn't that also because she only appeared in a few issues, completely sucked and then got killed off? I'm all for changing bad characters for the better.

If they don't care about being faithful then just create new characters... Not adapt something that they don't even care adapting faithfully in the first place. If this isn't based from something, no one would complain.

And yet I have seen you complain in the Legion and The Gifted threads about them using made up characters instead of characters from the comics :whatever:

EXactly. If they created new characters the complaints would switch to the why of using new characters when the X-verse is so rich.

If it was a minority then they would be accused of diversity. So basically where we are right now.

Yep. NTW was a dreadful character who was known only as being a hated joke in the fan community. The film made her better in every way.

Surprisingly there were still complaints on how she was not comic accurate here which goes to show...even if a character is a Z lister everyone has to wiki it will still happen. With someone like Domino who is the female lead of X-Force and a popular Deadpool co-star it was gonna be more vocal just based on her comics popularity. Add the Deadpool game and her animated appearances and there are fans who know her beyond the books and pretty much only by her look.

The complaints on this board regarding Domino are only like two people. Not sure why everyone is making a big deal, obviously they won't change their mind.

Personally I think they could have done a better job with her makeup and costume one way or the other be it black, chalk white, light blue, light grey or whatever. And yeah, I'd have rather they have made a bigger effort for her to look more like Domino in makeup and costume but a this point it's down to the character. Once the film comes out the majority will know her by that look and if she is awesome then the film did it's job. I do like how the blue in her comstume is standing out more in the promotional material.

I feel like her entire look and what not is kind of a fourth wall jab at fanboys *****ing about it in general. Deadpool says he wants the team to be forward thinking and diverse, and a black chick with natural hair in a fro is as far from the original Domino as you can get. It works for the joke as well.

Good! Please cast more diverse. Hispanic and Asian actors are lucky to even have a line in a comic film. Here the costume and makeup just look downplayed and kind of generic so to me that joke doesn't really play if it's a shot directly at those two things.

The actress and the hair should not be the issue. I still have a difficult time believing this was the only route for makeup or that a stronger costume design for Zazie cannot exist in the future. Likewise with Cable and the X-Force team for that matter. Even if these are toned down versions prior to the X-Force film Deadpool should be the property that goes all out on stuff like this.

I just hope the Movie will reveal that there's more to Domino. Because again, I hate to think that an experienced mercenary like her was just sitting around, doing nothing and probably being strapped for cash, and that's why she came to be part of the X-Force. Because she answered an ad. There really needs to be some sort of reveal that Cyclops or another X-Man asked Shatterstar, Bedlam and Domino to answer the ad, in order to keep an eye on Deadpool.

Completely agreed. She should be a rival merc of Deadpool at first.

I mean I haven't seen anyone in the last few pages complain about movie Domino because "she black". It's all been about her looking unrecognizable as the character to them.

I know nothing about Domino except that she has a particular look so I don't really care that she looks wildly different but I can empathize with the people who are disappointed.

The debate has been that a black actress cannot have Neena's makeup in any way other then what they did so that has played into it.

But yeah, hopefully she's a scene stealer and like Nathan pointed out there's more to her then just answering an ad.

I know this can be a controversial topic, but, for example, Paul Verhoeven, when he was looking for a an actor for Murphy, said he wanted not only a good performer, but also someone with specific facial features (mouth area) so it looks great when they put armor on him. I think it's a normal thing to consider physical attributes for a specific role. Will this or that make-up work on the performer? So when it comes to Zazie Beetz (or any other actor for that matter), in case they indeed wanted the character to have bleached skin, maybe it was worth considering beyond acting skills. After all, they were aware of the character's appearance.

It can be very much be completely different situation - they didn't care much for Domino's original design in the first place. And if so I can't be happy with that decision. At this point I'll just have to settle with good performance, if she delivers that, and hope that one day there will be visually comic-accurate live action version of the character.

I wasn't part of the hype for the first Deadpool and I'm not a huge fan of Deadpool but Beetz's Domino looks awesome. I'll watch the movie for her and out of curiosity to see what they do with Shatterstar.

Well she wishes she had finished collage if that counts? ;p

Probably won't be the case as it sounds more sillier then the ad idea alone.

The ad idea is silly but its funny because Deadpool puts the team together through an ad... while Cyclops getting characters to answer an ad is more just silly on top of silly just without the funny.

I am fairly certain I understand why you are interested in Shatterstar.

I would keep my expectations in check. It is clearly they are drawing from the extremely stupid, 90's extreme basis.

On the bright side this is an extremely aware creative team. The X-Force reception has been positive and a big part of the campaign.

So hopefully Shatterstar stars fans will be good. They are name dropping him as a member of X-Force and at the start of the trailer, so now there will be expectations. His civilian clothes are actually a decent grounded take imo. Gotta throw some more money on his battle suit though.

There is a screening for journalists in Mexico this week. Ryan will be there to do promo for it. Also a fan event will take place for this on May 1st in South Korea.
