Haha most definitely...FF was clearly a mess from the beginning but many were trying to be optimistic. Deadpool doesn't look like a mess nor is it being followed by a litany of questionable reports regarding the actual filming.

I'm hoping that the movie has good legs too, though I see no reason why it wouldn't. Honestly, I think that if BvS wasn't being released next month it'd probably have a chance to do better than $500 million. But that one is going to take in a lot of business.

I think it will do good business, but I'm not expecting it to gross $75 million next weekend.

The marketing campaign has been very strong though.

It cost Fox 60m, so if it at the least triples it's budget I don't see what's there to lose with a sequel. We just won't see a budget increase.

Has Fox released what the budget was for the film? I thought the only thing we had to go off was what one of the actors said in an interview. Probably best not to take an actors word on production budget as gospel considering how much can change in post alone. But yeah if it did only cost 60 million, 300 worldwide would definitely get a sequel.

60m has been thrown aroundmore then a few times now. We have also had 38m and 50m thrown around. Originally the film was budgeted at 50m. That was confirmed by the writers awhile back. Safe to say it's under 80m one way or the other.

Reynolds confirmed they were able to make the most of the budget because of Tim Miller and his background. Makes senses given that he owns Blur.

I would say $60 million makes sense.

However, you can tell they spent AT LEAST that much on the marketing campaign if not more.

Not even close to being true, this marketing was done on the cheap, making random Youtube videos and turning them viral is not expensive... Aside from the rumored Super Bowl spot which would cost 5 million, I can't see them having spent more than 20 million on marketing...

I'm still crossing my fingers for $292,130,506 (or more) worldwide. :D

And I still don't understand why. When you said it the first time I looked at the gross for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Green Lantern and a couple of others. But nothing.

I've seen commercials every day on ESPN.

If that happens we'll beat Twilight and become the 13th highest-grossing film franchise. :woot:

Wait, but didn't Twilight gross much more than that WW?

I'm gonna be realistic. This probably isn't goin anywhere over 500 mill. And that's if the films lucky. The R-Rating won't allow people to see it.

The R-rating could be a problem, but a lot of kids are going to be taken to this movie by their parents. A lot more then usual.

From what I've heard about the sex scenes, those parents will regret that decision.

They very well might. But even with the rating, they will see it as a typical superhero flick, at least going in. The power of the green band trailer.

If parents will bring their toddlers to The Wolfman, of course they will bring them to this.

This campaign goes well beyond viral videos.

What about buying all that air time to have Deadpool control MTV?

Very close to being true. This was not done on the cheap. You really think you can execute campaigns like that without spending more than $20 million?

Man, Deadpool better be crushing on Bea during Golden Girls.

X-Men had a $20 million marketing campaign. There is no chance in hell the marketing campaign for this film was only $20 million.

Maybe they spent only 20m because of corporate sponsors?

Wow you can determine a marketing budget based on the number of commercials you see on TV while you are watching? You are in the wrong profession....

I can compare it to the relative number of commercials I saw of other movies. I can dispel the idea that this marketing campaign has consisted solely of internet-based viral ads.

I think the advertising campaign at this point shows faith in the movie. They know it's good and want people to see it (which I think they think will sustain it at the top of the charts at least past Gods of Egypt, hopefully until Zootopia, and maybe even keep it in the top five until BvS). But I don't think this is a cheap ad campaign by any stretch of the imagination.

How? You think Viacom gave Deadpool all that air time for free? Fox bought all that air time on the Viacom networks because those viewers are the key demos for the film.
