Imagine if this thing has legs and hits 600 million or even 700 million?!

There's little competition until BvS. Frankly we're kinda in uncharted territory.

I think we've just entered the age of the R-rated comic book film.

Let's see if WB has a more liberal edit of Suicide Squad and pushes it to R. Wouldn't that be something?

I don't quite think that is the takeaway. As quite a few comic book films will still go for that toy money, and I don't think you can quite get away with marketing toys to an R rated film as you used to.

Now, we may see a resurgence of true R rated action films, which would be great.

R rated films are not just gonna make this money. Hopefully this ends the myth that they can be a success, but Deadpool had alot going for it prior. Along with arguably the film industries best marketing campaign.

Through the past few years there has been two characters that have destroyed the majority of comic characters in trends without having been portrayed either well or at all on screen. Those two are Deadpool and Harely Quinn. Anyone denying that, just isn't paying attention. Deadpools prior popularity, excessive merch, social trending, R rated marketing, and perfect casting got him here.

So you're saying Harley and Poison Ivy should get a R rated movie?:yay:

**** yeah! Gotham City Sirens rated R. Could only imagine that dream haha.

But...anything with Harley Quinn will make money. There has been a solid amount of underestimating with both Deadpool and Harley Quinn.

I agree with you but I'd swap Harley out for Lobo. Lobo is DC's Deadpool. And if ANY movie needs a hard R it's the main man.

Lobo should be R. But it will be awhile till he gets to Harley level.

That is where I respectfully disagree. I like Harley as much as the next man but in terms of R rated goodness Harley is no where near Lobo's level.

Lobo is a 4th wall breaking, violent, humorous, scene stealing(in the comics), and usually unexpected character. In comparisons with Deadpool Lobo is the obvious choice.

I meant pop culture wise with Harley. Lobo ain't there yet.

Now that we've shown that Deadpool can work on the big screen can we do the same for a female led superhero movie? ;)

Ah, I thought you meant pop culture potential, because Deadpool was not that fully ingrained in pop culture except with hardcore fans. However the movie shows how much potential Deadpool has at being a more universal pop culture icon.

But in simple popularity Harley beats out Lobo easily.

Count up Deadpool's youtube vids (Pewdie Pie, Machinima etc), comics, merch and games in the past 5 years. It's pretty high man.

Had more exposure then any other Marvel character pre film in the past 10 years.

If Suicide Squad is a breakout hit and crosses 300 m then I can see WB going forward with a Harley Quinn spin off with a similar tone and marketing as Deadpool.

So before the movie the average person didn't get the appeal of DP and after the movie they fully understand.

That's what every comic book adaptation should aim for.

He was a trending Marvel character prior to this film. That's what's impressive before any of this insane box office. Most Marvel films didn't have that. Marvel has and still does put out a ton of Deadpool merch for a reason.

They need Birds Of Prey, Catwoman and Storm in development.

Whoa, you're going a little left field on what I wrote. I was just putting my thoughts on Lobo in context to what was previously written about R rated movie potential and the characters that could pull it off. Any character could be turned into an icon with a great movie.

A Natural Born Killers style Joker and Harley film could be interesting.

That's what I'm talking about. DC can set up their Space Universe with Lobo being the wild card being so powerful.
