Yeah...though I am not yet sure if it would have similar legs like Kingsman had at the box office.

It'll be interesting to see how this movie will do at the box office. It'd be nice for it to get Kingsman or even Mad Max Fury Road numbers

People are selling Deadpool short because he's a new character, relatively speaking. He's an outsider character and is always going to be on the fringes. He's a character that is used to highlight how silly superhero tropes and cliches are, which is polarizing. And of course in the last few years he has been overexposed in too many comics that are written poorly.

There is an animosity towards the character from some comic book fans because of those reasons.

This is a very good point, his character is not a "nice guy" super hero such as Spiderman so will not appeal to as wide an audience as some one such as that. He's annoying, antagonizing and sort of a d**k so that will turn off a lot of people if they get his character right (which judging from the trailer looks like they have nailed), straight off the bat.

But as its an R rating most should know what they are getting going in.

He's sort of an "injoke" in himself in the comic world, its hard to predict what sort of reaction he will get before you even consider the quality of the film itself.

Audiences like to laugh (be it pg-13 or R material), audiences like action and they also really like Superheros with cool outfits. Deadpool's appeal isn't that out there for general audiences.

What's funny is that Deadpool's comic fan base is more mainstream then a majority of other Marvel Superheros. Alot of the die hard comic readers stay away from Deadpool or just don't like him. But Deadpool still grabs high comic sells and dishes out merch cause of his humor, online trending and design.

Much like Harley Quinn, people just really like crazy funny antiheros.

If the marketing is spot on and the word of mouth is good I can easily see 'Deadpool' make 'Mad Max: Fury Road' and 'Kingsman' numbers.

I'd be shocked if this movie doesn't do $400M

Considering how well Daredevil is doing on Netflix, there is a serious contingent of comic book fans that will want to see an R-Rated comic book movie. With repeat viewing and word of mouth, it probably hits $300M easily. Release date is the only thing keeping it from doing bigger numbers. Going head to head with Zoolander 2 might steal a little of its thunder.

This feels like a $200 million film, think it will win the opening weekend for sure, but depends on what it opens against, but I can see this making $50-$60 million it's opening weekend, lower than other comic films, but only because of the R rating it will get, that will keep a lot of kids and family's way, only hardcore fans will see this.

Think it's more like the 17-45 demo will mostly see this. Which is a good chunk of the movie going audience.

The "hardcore fan" demo aint that big. This trailer is attracting alot more outlets then that.

True. I’m sure first timers will see it too, not just comic fans. DP has increased in popularity over the past few years so I think a lot of people will go see it. I really hope it does well. Its been a long time coming.

That is a rather large opening in Febuary. Honestly, if it can break $40 million, it is already a great success. Breaking $50 million is possible, but not something I would bet on. And $150 million domestic would be amazing.

People have to remember we are not looking at a summer blockbuster.

I think around 400 due to the amount of DP fans out there. Some don’t even read the comics and just love his character. I don’t think it’ll make much more than that due to it being R rated and kids/families keeping away.

Kingsman was amazing. I really did enjoy that movie. Hopefully it appeals to that sort of crowd too.

hmm, apparently Zoolanders 2 is opening up on the same week against deadpool, i wonder if this will affect it whatsoever or simply wont even budge it?

Worldwide, 2oolander won't affect Deadpool.

I loved the hell out of Kingsman and though I personally am not the biggest Deadpool fan, he is a more known commodity than Kingsman with a more established fanbase.

So, if it doesn't do 20-30% more than Kingsman, it probably would be because the movie isn't good.

He's more known but Kingsman might be a concept that fits more people outside the comicbook world. Hopefully that's not the case but it's certainly within the realm of possibility for a very well done Deadpool movie not to be a big hit.
