Speaking of Wolverine, I now concede that Deadpool has surpassed him in popularity. I was on the fence, but no longer.

That's what happens when one character gets a 100% faithful movie adaptation & the other has a terrible origins movie & a subpar follow-up. :D

No, but seriously, Fox really dropped the ball with the Wolverine solo franchise. In particular, the first entry. The second was enjoyable, but they really needed to nail the first one and they failed so miserably.

Agreed (although never read Mark Waid's). What's your opinion on Duggan's run?
Love it! Been one of the best runs.:up:

Sins of the past is a great mini by Waid. Definitely worth checking out.

Yeah, the only thing that's a question now is if the X-Men name itself is more marketable. For a first IP Deadpool is gonna ko most, unless it's just very front loaded.

Even the second Wolverine film was a big disappointment to me. I thought it was decent but an uninspired adaptation. That was going to be the game changer with Aronofsky..

Now people can finally shut up about R-rated movies not making bank, Deadpool only appealing to die-hard fans and Ryan Reynolds being box office poison.

Can someone get me Grace Randolph's number? I'd like to invite her to dinner and then watch the R-rated, box office shattering, 84% RT Deadpool with her........

Ahhh, the sweet vindication of #Deadpool's dropping RottenTomatoes score - fanboy trolls must miss the days of my mere B+ rating

Ahhh, Grace... Can you feel it, too?

It's amazing how successful this is going to be, I am delighted as I loved the movie.

I just hope this encourages Marvel and WB/DC to do more R rated CBMs which many of us have been asking for for a while. In fairness to WB they have done a few in the past. But the point still stands. There are so many characters out there who would suit an R Rated movie.

I still think if Dredd had been marketed properly it would have been a much bigger success.

Yea we can't underestimate the marketing for this film. It's gotta be the best ever right? At some points it might have bordered on annoying... but then in a way that is the point of Deadpool.

Using him in cancer PSAs was just... genius. A lot of the ideas were.

This whole production was just executed perfectly i think. Everything just came together here.

At least in the case of Marvel, I don't think that will ever happen. Disney wants the MCU to form a distinct cinematic brand, akin to what they do with their animated movies, and one component of that would be family-friendliness (relatively speaking). Introducing stuff like Deadpool into the brand would just confuse things.

If Marvel can do the Netflix shows, which are much more violent than DP was, I don't see why they can't do an r rated movie with one of the characters they own. Blade and Ghost Rider would both suit r rated movies.

You just captured the difference there: Netflix. The Netflix shows are their own brand, just like the various ABC SHIELD-related stuff is.

Deadpool is on track to have a bigger opening weekend not just than the previous X-Men movie but also all MCU solo films other than the Iron Man sequels, which is astounding.

They are still Marvel shows run by Marvel though, if they can be done an r rated movie can be as well. If they choose to do it. Personally I think going darker in their movies would help them immensely. We may actually get threatening villains then.

The Netflix shows are only connected theoretically. A few throw away references here and there aside it's basically it's own universe. Heck they already said they'll probably recast if they want to use characters previously used in Netflix shows on the big screen.

In a different medium, and intended to be essentially self-contained. That's a different brand than the movies; they're no more likely to make an R-rated MCU film than they are to let their animated movies stray into PG-13.

Casting new actors would be a ridiculous decision.

I know it's being considered a different brand at the moment, but it's still Marvel doing it, so they could change their minds. Maybe Deadpool will help in that. Mi certainly hope so.

It would be, but I have seen mentioned of that. Let me see if I can find a source. So far I've only found:

Well Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox, has said that he’s not had the call from Kevin Feige just yet. But even if Marvel did decide to have Daredevil in Avengers: Infinity War, it doesn’t have to be Charlie Cox in the role. “Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are two very different things,” he told ET. “So even if the character were to appear in that film, that doesn’t necessarily mean that I would appear in that film.

and

Anthony Russo said, "The films are controlled by a group led by Kevin Feige, so they function as a unit. Other products, even if they are from Marvel, are controlled by others... There is the possibility of a crossover, but it's more complicated... As storytellers, we only have control over what happens in Marvel movies, but everything is possible."
