Myself included, I heard a lot of "I want to see this again" last night.

I think this film's success complicates the Fantastic Four situation. Will Fox give back the property after making Deadpool happen or will they try again and next time hire somebody who actually loves the Fantastic Four?

They still have some great characters in the F4. I hope they hire someone who loves the F4, but I am sick off all the attempts thus far. No sure if I want another F4 anytime soon.

I rarely follow the BO for movies, but having seen so many people predict how this would do as its an R rated movie, I had to check today. Most people I saw said it would be around $75-85 million at the most, and then I check today, and it's at $135. lol, looks like Schnepp was right again.

*slow clap

Either way we win. Maybe they keep the property and Fox makes a movie closer to its comic roots with people that love the property or they give up the property and Marvel makes a movie closer to its comic roots with people that love the property.

Unless we are assuming Disney - Disney! - handed over X-Men character TV rights solely in exchange for a minority stake in Legion and Hellfire, there's an excellent chance the situation has already been resolved.

There is that. If they have already handed it over then Deadpool's success is just Deadpool's success.

How does this complicate Fantastic Four at all? It doesn't. This has nothing to do with the Fantastic Four situation.

Why would Deadpool's success convince them to give back Fantastic Four?

I don't understand your question Vile because I didn't say that Deadpool's success would cause them to give FF back to Marvel.

Deadpool 2 better open with Deadpool swimming in a pool of money ala Scrooge McDuck....

Good movie.

I really don't understand the ratings system in the US... Here in Canada, the ratings vary by province, and my province is quite the backwater province, and DeadPool was rated 14+.

Do the boobs really ,are a difference?

An R rating seems unbelievable based on what I saw.

Really good movie.

Really good movie.

The language was a major part, along with the violence. And we only have one rating system (as weird as it can be) in the US.

It's the most astonishing start at the box office by any movie in the genre ever since The Avengers.
I usually don't like to establish a correlation between box office success and quality but I'm just so happy for Reynolds, Miller, Reese and Wernick. They totally deserve credit for every penny this movie makes.

Not long ago I honestly thought that it would be a coin flip between Deadpool and Zoolander for winning the box office opening weekend battle. Something in the 55 million range.

If you would have wanted to make a bet and give me Zoolander plus 100 million I would have bet my house. I'd be homeless on Monday. Thank God there aren't bets allowed on box office!

Just got back from the matinee showing. Theater was packed. Everyone stayed for the post-credits bit, too. I think this will have good legs.

Up here, an R rated movie means you have to be 19 and up to see it.

If it's the same in the US, I don't see how F bombs nor boobs would be so detrimental to an 18 year old... Though some of the violence was quite brutal.

People over-estimated the popularity of Zoolander, whose first film only made $45 million.

The demand for a sequel wasn't justified. How popular is this film even among its cult group of fans?

In the United States, R-rated means you have to be 17 or older to buy a ticket. You can still see it if you are under 17, but you have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian that's 17 or older.

NC-17 means no one under 17 is permitted.

I saw a group of people with a bunch of kids under 10 years old at a screening last night. Apparently they were French, so it's no big deal.

Yea it's nice to see something like this make money. A passion project where everyone had their heart in the right place.

I think this will have a lot of repeat viewings. It's a real party type movie. It creates a real atmosphere in the audience. Every one has a blast even if they ain't 100% on the film.

Deadpool is 12+ in Belgium and even then I think it's basically just a warning and not even really enforced.

I think Zoolander is a ridiculously overrated film. It has a few chuckles but it's not a good or really funny movie.

Apart from animated films, generally sequels to comedies tend to be a bit of a letdown compared to the first. I understand why they are made but the decent ones you can probably count on one hand.

But a movie with Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, and Penelope Cruz with cameos from a ton of stars getting beat 135 to 15 ?!?!?!

$135 million domestic opening for Deadpool to $15 million for Zoolander! That's not just a win that's stunning in every way.

I've been reading the last few pages on the conversions, so here's my general reply to everyone. It just seems like this movie was a case of 'no **** Sherlock'. If you make a good movie, and market well, it's rating doesn't matter. Deadpool completely blows the lid off everything studios thought you needed to do in order to have broad appeal.

With these figures the reality has shown that the ones doing most of the ticket purchasing in general are adults, and adults are more than willing to see stuff that has more mature subjects. Violence, language, drugs and sex can be subjects that are done in a creative and entertaining way. I'm not going to be advocating R-rated superheroes from here on in, but I do think R-rated blockbusters need to start being made on the back of this. Deadpool's success I believe comes down a lot to how unapologetically violent and absurd it is. It pushes the envelope in ways no other superhero movie has.

Amazing also to think about also, Fox would already be making profit from this movie. After the first weekend.
