Sequels Deadpool Spin-off Confirmed

Does anyone here honestly believe all the stuff Reynolds has been saying about the "new" Deadpool movie? They want it to be a hard PG13-bordering-R film. It's a complete reboot of the character. Breaking the fourth wall throughout. A crazy, killing anti-hero....

Does anyone actually think Fox is seriously considering making this film? Really?

No... they just paid some writers to write a script for no reason. They are in negotiations with a director for no reason. They are trying to coerce said director to drop Spy Kids 4 for no reason.

multi-million dollar comic book films NEED to have a well defined hero that can be marketed to a young demographic to succeed. The way Reynolds has been describing Deadpool lately makes it only appealing to a smaller niche within the established niche audience. Look at Punisher: War Zone, Kick Ass, Scott Pilgrim, Watchmen... what do they all have in common besides underperforming at the Box Office? They were not marketable to children because of their tone and content. If a comic book film that has a "costumed" hero cannot be marketed to kids, the studios won't risk big $ What does that mean? The studio HAS to make concessions to open the film to a broader demographic.

There's no way in hell Fox is going to make a Deadpool movie where the main character is a cussing, barbaric villain (anti-hero = likable villain). They can't possibly market that kind of film successfully when a large portion of their profits from a comic book film come from the merchandise. Does anyone recall the merchandising campaign around the X-Men movies, Wolverine and FF? Do you see that same financially successful campaign being applied to a Deadpool movie the way Reynolds has been describing it?
You do realize Deadpool could be made for like, 40 million dollars right? Not exactly a financial risk.

And Deadpool would appeal to people outside Deadpool fans.

Martial arts for martial arts fans? Check
Gun battles and explosions for action junkies? Check
Comedy for comedy fans? Check
Ryan Reynolds for Ryan Reynolds fans? Check

Plus you know, it's satire. The comic book movie industry is crying out for something fresh and unique like a satirical comic book movie. There is a over saturation of superhero movies.

Also have you actually ever met a child? They love violence and comedy and cool looking ninja outfits.

So why has Reynolds been saying things about this tentative film that make fanboys drool? Easy: So when he walks away from the film he isn't the "bad guy." He'll retain his fan cred and will more than likely blame his departure on creative differences and scheduling conflicts. It's a win-win situation for him. He stays away from an imminent b.o. flop (or a success where the studio completely bastardizes the character) and still looks like the shinning beacon of light to comic fans. It's called good business sense.
No, actually. It will make him look like a *****e who has been talking up a movie for nearly a decade, stringing fans along, who then decides to drop it just as it's about to be made.

Ryan Reynolds Says Deadpool Movie Is In The Works But Still Has No Idea When/If We'll See It!
"We'll see," Reynolds told MTV News when asked whether or not Deadpool is still in the works. "It's in development like the other films."

"Look, a movie is the sum of all its parts. You have to have a filmmaker signed on, you have to have the budget worked out, and you have to have the rating worked out. All those things."

And from everything that we've heard so far, it would seem that Deadpool has none of those things! However, the movie does have a script currently being worked on by Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to which Reynolds said: "It's coming along."

"There's a great script there."
You can find the video on CBM/MTV News.

Tons of actors are passionate about projects or scripts they want to make but sometimes it doesn't work out. It happens, that's the nature of the business.

And then sometimes you have Battlefield Earth which was a labor of love for John Travolta of course.

RIPD or the movie that you've been telling fans you want to do for a decade? -_-

I think people take too many things for granted. Personally, I won't have any hopes for a "Deadpool" movie until FOX actually greenlights that damn thing, and announces a director and start date. Until then, it's just another movie in development. And it's not even Reynolds' fault. He's not the one to finance the movie.
Honestly, if you were involved in a "shaky" project like this, and were offered a movie like "Green Lantern", which has Martin Campbell on board, (almost) green light from the studio and a start date, would you waste your time waiting for FOX to finally greenlight a "Deadpool" movie, or would you accept the other offer and work instead?
A "Deadpool" movie is as much of a done deal as a new "Batman" movie was in 1999. I'm sure it'll happen eventually. Just don't think of it as a project that's actually happening anytime soon if you don't want to get upset about this.. ;)

Thread name should be changed to "Deadpool Spin-off awaiting Confirmation" :p

The way I see it, Fox is having trouble nailing it all down and getting a director which made Ryan go on and accept other projects which were alot more secure.

With Robert Rodriguez wanting to do Spy Kids 4 (wtf?) first, I'd just put this whole project on hold and wait for the good conditions to line up. Fox might want to rush it tho and that may cost us Ryan...

Robert Rodriguez is busy? Fine... get the guys who did the Crank movies, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. According to imdb they're signed on to anything right now.

They're currently filming Ghost Rider.

Wait for Rodriguez. He's interested in doing it AND he's a really good director who's very good with both action sequences and slightly unusual heroes (Desperado and From Dusk Til Dawn immediately spring to mind). He's an excellent choice and i'd much rather have to wait 18 months for the movie and have him and Ryan Reynolds on board than rush it now with a director and/or lead man (and even whole cast) that isn't as good as it should be.

This movie will be alot better off if it's made over a proper time-scale and given the attention it needs rather than us getting the Wolverine Origins treatment of Wade again. Jesus, that was bad. Don't ever want a superhero film being like that was again, ESPECIALLY a character as much fun as Deadpool is.

Oh, and seeing Cable and Domino would be nice as well!
And given it's a Rodriguez film, if I don't see Cheech Marin in some sort of politically-incorrect cameo, i'm not gonna be happy!

Rodriguez might be pretentious, and have a severe case of the "self-entitled L.A. ego" - but he'll push FOX to meet his demands to keep the film's integrity intact. He's the best hope for an R-rated Deadpool.

I wouldn't want to tempt fate by having so much invested in the Zombieland crew making Deadpool. I'm not against that idea, but maybe they caught lightning in a bottle once with that movie, and they shouldn't test the waters with Deadpool unless the director is 100% devoted to the idea of making this movie for what it should be.

The script has finally leaked. It's about time. It's hilarious!

Colossus? Unless Deadpool is in Russia & is protecting it, Colossus shouldn't be in this movie.

I could understand Wolverine, but when has Colossus appeared with Deadpool for longer than 2 seconds?

Whoa, where's the leaked script? I'd love to read it, so if it has in fact leaked, I'd greatly appreciate a PM. Thanks!

Reading about the characters that supposedly appear in it have me quite giddy. I really didn't think they'd include Al. I guess we're getting Hellhouse as well!

I don't think there's a leak. It seems like the writers said all of that.
