Deadpool & Wolverine Deadpool & Wolverine at the BoX office

If China's box office was strong as it used to be and the state of Russia didn't start an invasion on Ukraine. These worldwide gross numbers would have been higher.

Plus post-Covid and streaming definitely affected the movie going experience. Which amazes me when movies can still gross over $500 million in North America alone.

I'm just hoping Marvel Studios can get their **** together because movie theaters need their movies.

They do.

DC getting some momentum would help a lot too. Then if Marvel fails, at least theaters would have a solid backup.

Theaters are coming back strong. Studios just can't count on China's market like they used to.

Guess DP&W's title as number 1 R-rated film is gonna be safe for a while. Wonder what else could ever possibly dethrone it.

Yep, Joker 2 isn't going to be any threat.

An R-rated Spidey and Daredevil team-up.

Another thing im happy about is the legs have been good for this film. A lot of posters on the box office reddit expected this film to be super frontloaded.

This being a legit crowdpleaser that has great rewatchablity factor helps tremendously

Yeah sounds like Joker 2 is a bit of a disaster and isnt going to be a contest this time.

I expect Morbius 2 to take the crown in the future though....

Another Deadpool & Wolverine movie with another big superhero included in the mix.

Not sure where I saw it earlier & BO Mojo hasn't updated yet, but apparently this has passed Star Wars: The Last Jedi to move into the top 20 WW grosses of all time.

Impressive. It'll probably surpass Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 sometime this week.

From that list, the only one I haven't seen is Super Mario Bros. I haven't seen anything from Illumination.

After TFA came out how ludicrous would it have sounded that a Deadpool film could beat a main Star Wars sequel to a $2B film!

I think inflation helped. I think if Covid and the wars across the globe in the last 4 years, didn't happen, a lot of post-2019 films would have earned more. China's box office numbers aren't the same since Covid started. Iirc, the second Wolverine film did well in Russia. I think the state of blockbuster movies would have been different. Streaming would still have made an impact but not to this extent.

Still say avatar being on top is bulls***
Re-releases shouldn't count, initial box office only :o

I remember the discussion of Joker 2 potentially taking the highest grossing rated R film title from Deadpool & Wolverine... I of course wanted D&W to keep the crown, for many years to come. But good Lord, Joker 2 is not even crossing half a billion worldwide. In North America, not even $100 million.

I don't know which CBM got it worse at the box office, Joker 2 or The Marvels. So for next year, Captain America, Thunderbolts* and Fantastic 4 - they could do as bad as those films at the box office, if Marvel Studios don't play their cards right. Literally no franchise is safe from a box office bomb now. The only one I think is safe for next year is Superman but still, its DC. Who knows?

Yeah I thought it was going to be a fair fight at least and fun to watch how Joker 2 compared but its not going to even be a contest, Joker has fallen flat on its face this time round.

I didn't think it was going to be a match. A lot of franchises don't seem to perform that well at the box office. A lot of them probably peaked, numbers wise. Even Venom is projecting its lowest opening weekend. Deadpool 3 had a huge gimmick with bringing Wolverine in but still, thats the only live action movie that grossed over a billion this year. The rest didn't even hit $800 million.

Dune: Part Two ($714,444,358)
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire ($571,750,016)

Compare this to 2018/2019 and times have really changed. The other three movies that crossed the $500 million mark are all animated films.

I just didn't expect Joker's sophomore slump to be this bad. Based from box office numbers, its not going to outgross the Marvels in North America. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't gross more than 205 million worldwide. The movie has no legs.

Thats another impressive feat considering how much of a moment the whole Barbenheimer thing was.
