Deadpool & Wolverine Deadpool & Wolverine News and General Discussion Thread

I finally got around to seeing the film last night. It was a really satisfying watch from start to finish. I've never been much of a Channing Tatum fan—and he does look a bit silly wearing a comic-accurate Gambit costume—but his performance here was a delight. Jackman was great as always, and seeing him finally don the Wolverine cowl gave me chills. It looked surprisingly good, IMO. The cameos by Blade and Human Torch were also pretty cool. Snipes hasn't lost his edge, and Evans can still silence an audience no matter what role he plays. This is easily my favorite Deadpool movie, though I thought Ryan Reynolds was funnier in the first one.

Does anyone know for sure the identities of two of the mutants/henchmen at Cassandra's base:

- The bald guy in the black leather trenchcoat who people thought was TV Blade actor Sticky Fingaz

- The burly bearded guy in the red and white top played by Billy Clements and billed as Russian, according to imdb
So I have solved one of these. I saw a tweet on my phone from a geek site.

The guy in the trenchcoat is Curtis Small playing a Bullseye variant (from Daredevil, with Bullseye originally played by Colin Farrell in the 2003 Affleck movie). Curtis's version has the same bullseye markings on his forehead.

The bearded guy that is billed as Russian is literally The Russian. The character was in a Punisher movie (played by Kevin Nash in the film, but they changed actors for Deadpool and Wolverine.

Marvel Studios better have Thomas Jane and Nicholas Cage in Secret Wars. I'd also have Eric Bana back as Hulk.

Of all the cameos and such the film had, the biggest shock for me was
mentioning Batman by name.
Like geez, how much did that cost in royalties?

Would mentioning Batman's name as a pop culture reference really cost anything? They didn't use the logo or talk about him being a character in the Marvel universe, they referenced him in a pop culture sort of way. I doubt WBD would sue them over something like that anyway.

Yeah, I don't think it's a big thing. The names must be fair use.

Copying from other thread:

“I saw D&W today with my sis and bro-in-law who both enjoyed it a lot and got a fair few references despite also missing a lot. I already thought I understood well why this film was exploding and also why it annoyed the heck out of some fans - and seeing it totally confirmed everything I thought. Also as expected, I had a total blast with it. :D

Looking back, my irritation with Deadpool in 2 might have been more related to that annoying kid, still only seen that film the one time while I’ve seen the first 50 or so times. I found Deadpool strangely quite fresh again and a unique vehicle to do this stuff with CBMs in general. The jokes are definitely about quantity rather than quality but enough of them land to make up for the large number that don’t. The cameos were very fun and I’m glad for many of the actors getting another chance, some nice nostalgia at the end too.

This was a great team up but it made made me realise that Deadpool himself has awesome action choreography compared to many other superheroes. I’d had enough of him after 2 but now I’m up for more after this one.

Oh and I’d seen a lot of praise for Emma Corrin here. Yes, she was an absolute delight every second she was on screen. I’ll have to check out more films that she’s in.”

Superman is mentioned all the way back in the Raimi Spider-man films. And more recently, Batman is mentioned in the GotG Holiday special. I think DC just exists as fiction in the various Marvel universes, and doesn't require any special licensing to name-drop.

It probably cost nothing.

I watch a lot of kdrama and Iron Man and Captain Marvel were mentioned.

Round 4 or 5. Surprised that my theater was 90% booked for the three showings in am and had to go midday while Aliens doesn't have has many showings in my theater and have not been halfway empty.
