Deleted scenes

They didn't want Cyclops b/c of Marsden's "defection" and they didn't want Phoenix b/c they wanted it to be strictly "X-men vs. Brotherhood" correct?
Correct but it was more like Wolverine vs Magneto. That was one of the plans for the final battle according Neil Gaiman.

MARK: You turned down X3 for some chick in spangly knickers. Give me a brief rundown of your essential ingredients for a great X-Men movie. What are we missing given that your name is not on these credits?

JOSS: Well, there’s probably more of me in the third than the first, since they’re using my ‘cure’ scenario as a jumping off point (to be clear, I know many people have done cure scenarios before me – X-Statix did one that came out just months before – but I didn’t know that when I wrote mine. So my wildly unoriginal idea was, in fact, mine. Avi told me they were using it (and the character of Kavita Rao) for the movie, possibly because of the more modern genetic forum, possibly because they didn’t read the other ones either. And let me also say that the long trailer looks awfully cool. BUT. Were it me, I would do sort of what I did taking over Grant’s book – pare it down. Take a few characters and really **** them up, instead of the everybody-in-the-pool monster epic they (hopefully) have pulled off. The mission statement I always ‘Why do I love every single character? What makes them worth writing about?’ I thought about the movie in the brief time I thought I might be able to work on it and of course Phoenix was central. I was playing with the idea that her out of control power was making everyone else a little nuts as well. A chance for Xavier to be Not Picard, for Logan to get feral, Scott funky, Rogue homicidal(ish). Mutants becoming an actual menace, if mostly to themselves. And there were Sentinels, ‘cause, dude. Actually I have the whole trailer in my head. I’ll tell you about it sometime.

Interesting is right.

How would a battle like that even work?! LOL.

yeah when professor's body bust.i thought that was nasty.i'm male and i almost cried.

Okay . . . there is no reason why the Iceman freezing Phat and extended Dark Phoenix destruction scenes should have been cut. If violence is the issue, I say look to X2. Wolverine defending the school is much more violent.

I think it was from AICN script review that had Rogue spying on the Brotherhood and thinking about joining the bad guys but not going through with it. I always thought that was an interesting twist to Rogue's character: going from X-men to the Brotherhood as opposed to the other way around.

Instead we got Rogue taking the cure. :whatever:

well i dont think violence was the issue because the film was rated pg-13. and we r getting the deleted scenes in the DVDs. so just dont be upset. its fine. :cwink: but i wud have loved 2 see those scenes in the theatre itself :csad:

so is the USA getting all 21 deleted scenes or not? i dont feel like reading through everything. lol.

is it luck of the draw? is it confirmed anywhere? R1 only, USA, the millions of copies. 21 deleted scenes? or just 10?

I want to know too. I'm getting really annoyed, lol. There are conflicting reports. With proof from both ends!

In hong kong's R1... we get 21 scene
R3, we get 21 scenes and extras
( YES I GOT BOTH )

Yes, it looks like we're getting alll twenty-one deleted scenes in Region One as well. We're just not getting the second disc with the docs, the blogs...the pre-viz stuff, etc.

My take on it?

I think that it became an unnecessary burden for them to press three different discs. So what they did was press a bunch of the single discs for all regions and then pressed the second discs for all regions but Region One.

The idea was to give us in the US only ten, but at some point they must have changed their minds. Less hassle for them and better for us.

Hmmm.. well I guess we will find out this Tues. I doesn't make sense though that they would take away 11 extra deleted scenes from the biggest dvd buying country and just give them to other regions.

Too many complaints is meaningless.

These things were pressed months ago before we even knew the specs.

It simply wasn't cost effective to create three different discs.

They couldn't care less about fan complaints.

The only deleted scenes I really liked was the extended fight at Jean's house and when Iceman froze Phat, the others were okay. The commentary on the bearded Magneto scene was funny. "One ring to rule them all." :D

I'm glad they cut out the whole "Oh, Mr. President, shut the **** up" line. I thought it was kind of lame which is funny cause on the commentary they thought it would've been the funniest line in the movie.

Also, the what was up with the Alternate ending in which Wolverine goes to Canada? Was that supposed to set him up for his movie?

My thoughts on the deleted scenes as I'm watching them--

Xavier's Voiceover: Would've tied this one to the other two nicely. Should've been used.

Jimmy in Laboratory: Kinda pointless. Doesn't add anything.

Beast Meets Logan: Stupid growl. The scene is better in the movie.

Pyro Tells Magneto about the Cure (Shaven): Wow, doesn't add anything.

Pyro Tells Magneto about the Cure (Shaven): Again, adds nothing. And what's with the beard?

Guard Yells at the President: Kind of humorous, but the film is already too silly. Wouldn't really have worked, and I'm glad it's out.

Extended Fight at Jean's House: Has a few nice ideas, but the execution just isn't there.

Here's Juggy: Kinda stupid.

Magneto Tortures Wolverine: Couple of extra seconds that I think would've added a little bit to the scene.

Phoenix Destruction: Just a few extra seconds added to the long FX shot. Nothing special really.

Alternate School Ending: Stupid dialogue ruins what's not even an alternate ending, just an extended ending. Better the way it is in the movie.

Alternate Rogue Ending: Should've been in the movie. Period.

Alternate Wolverine Ending: Finally, an actual deleted scene. This one's a nice touch, and I liked how it goes all the way back to Act I of the first movie, but I still think it wouldn't have fit anywhere in the denoument (I know I spelled that wrong). But a great scene, nonetheless.

It kind of reminds me of the final week leading up to the release of the movie in theatres. What was the runtime? Was Cyclops in it? Was Gambit in it? Was Storm's wave in it? And there was proof on both sides to back up the claims.

Who remembers this?
