There was. It was not your imagination.
But it was Dr. Crane's imagination, actually hallucinosis (hallucination caused by drugs).

That scene, when he's flying, and looking down - the red coming out of his eyes and mouth and the people's reaction always makes me laugh.

The regular one from Crane's scene and the flying one with light action feature in his eyes and mouth.

yes but why would people imagine a flying woden prop on a wire? wouldnt they imagine a scary as demon with bat wings and pointed devil horns sweeping over them
