Detective Pikachu

This... this looks better than it had any right to be. I legit turned back into a 6 year old kid watching this trailer.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I actually love it. It's just that I really wasn't expecting them to look so faithful to the cartoon.

Well, except for Mr. Mime. I really wish Mr. Mime looked different.

Mr. Mime was always creepy looking, so this is another aspect they got right. :funny:

Mr. Mime looks as creepy as he should.

Looks surprisingly good. Seems to be another Lego Movie level surprise to me.

EDIT: Also glad to see the main character's friend has a psyduck as a companion. That should be wonderful.

Mewtwo was there?
Well, I'm hardly a Pokemon expert. After watching the trailer again, no Mewtwo.

People on net have identified some of them as - charizard, charmeleon, bulbasaur, Psyduck, Jigglypuff and Mr. Mime, any others ?

That new one called Greninja is there.

I'm really not feeling the designs here. Not sure what it is but seeing the hyper-cartoonish original designs with these textures in these environments feels a little strange. Plus, it looks kinda cheap. Like an ad for Pokemon Go instead of a live action film.

Okay, as a dad and a fan from the Gameboy Pokemon days, this looks like fun. Also, you've got Ryan Reynolds voicing Pikachu, and a lot of background characters to search for. I'll probably take my kids to see it. I doubt it'll be as good as the first Pokemon animated movie, but it'll probably be fun. If I didn't have kids, would I even think about seeing it? Maybe. We'll see as it gets closer.

So this is basically "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" with Pokémon?

I'm a bit conflicted, the trailer looks fun but the Pokémon themselves, other than Pikachu, are this weird mix between being highly-textured, hyper-detailed realisitc CGI and having the proportions of a Nintendo Wii design. Kinda like if somebody had done the weird "anime-eyes" thing from the Aelita trailer to actual animals and called it a day.

I'm not really a Pokemon guy, but I did briefly watch the anime and collect the Trading Cards back in 1999-2000..

I'm not that impressed by the story so far, but Pikachu looks great. Whether this movie is good or bad, it's going to make a ton of money for the brand name alone.

Hoping we get a teaser for Sonic the Hedgehog with this.

I was a mega Pokemon fan back in the day. Collected all the cards and watched the show/movies almost religiously. I will admit that it does look better than I anticipated and while I do like the design and look of Pikachu I'm not sure about the rest. I get that it's hard to make Pokemon look realistic, but they still look really cartoony to me, especially in these real environments. Also, as much as I love Ryan Reynolds I'm not sure if I like him as the voice for Pikachu.

All I could think of when he was talking was Deadpool and was kind of expecting him to drop a F bomb at some point lol.

Some of the Pokemon look more photorealistic than others. It's hit and miss.

For instance, Pikachu and Jigglypuff have fur and Charizard has scales, whereas Mr. Mime is all plastic-y. His hair has the same texture as his skin.

I think the degisns are great, the cute ones look cute and fluffy and the evolved ones look menacing as fully evolved pokemon should. ANd then the odd balls like Mr. Mime look odd because they're odd

I think Mr Mime looks fine, it's a pretty hard Pokemon to pull off realistically because it is humanoid.
