I don't get this. Were the trailers misleading? I've read a couple of negative reviews and I'm still not sure what exactly is wrong with the movie.

Rampage ended that “curse” last year.

Rampage was a bit of an oddity where it wasn't marketed as a video game movie, only a monster movie with Dwayne Johnson.

I know detective Pikachu is a video game but I personally wouldn't consider this a video game adaptation, Pokemon has such a rich lore across multiple mediums and some of it's best stories are told in the show and movies. This to me is more than just a live action video game, it's also a anime adaption.

You said it yourself, Detective Pikachu is literally a video game, and the movie is an adaptation of the game's story, and not an adaptation a story from the anime, that makes it a video game adaptation. Being a video game adaptation is not in any way lesser than being an anime adaptation.

I'm glad to see the early buzz for this is mostly positive. I mean who actually had super high expectations for this when it comes to the reviews? Honestly, its doing much better than I ever thought it would.

It’s no surprise reviews are mixed.

The director ain’t exactly got the best track record.

Gulliver’s Travels and Goosebumps. And one of worst Dreamworks animated film Shark Tale.

I effing loved sharks tale. Anyway I’m not worried. I mean it was so hyped up no wonder people got disappointed but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad film or not an enjoyable two hours out

Do you reckon they’ve found a Stan Lee like cameo for Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of Pokémon? He was an executive producer on the movie and I think it would be fun

Someone made it sound like added reviews are scary, but it seems to be doing fine critically so far.
I wonder how will it perform in box office.
