planet skaar prologue one-shot $3.99

I really enjoyed the Skaar arc with the Silver Surfer, though I've not read the rest of the series so I'm debating on just continuing with the book. Planet Skaar could be really cool so I'm going to give it a good thumb through and will probably get it. As for the rest, I'm excited for Battle for the Cowl as it's the first Batman book I've bought and I'm enjoying it so far. Curious to see how it ends, though I assume it ends with Nightwing taking up the mantle. I thought Thunderbolts was awsome for their first arc but the crossover, for them, was very bleh. I'm hoping this issue picks up the quality a bit more like the Air Force One storyline or else I may drop it very soon. Punisher has been unexpectedly enjoyable for me so I'm actually looking forward to this one, and with the last 2 issues of Uncanny X-Men I'm curious to see what happens here. I think I'm just ready for the current Maddie story to be done, but at least for the first time since issue 500 it's become interesting again. And that leaves Black Terror, which I believe is the last issue. I'm loving the Project Superpowers stuff and this was better than Death-Defying Devil or Masquerade and seems like a more direct lead-in to Project Superpowers Vol. 2. I'm excited to finally see how his war on D.C. will play out. Very much looking forward to Vol. 2!

I agree to both of those statements. I really want to like AOA just cause I like Jeff Parker but the flash backs are really taking away from it.

I liked the flashbacks. Their connection to the present-day stuff seems tenuous, but I don't mind parallel stories running through a comic, so it didn't bother me. The contrast of Marvel Boy's personality in the past and present was interesting to read, too. All I hope for future Agents of Atlas issues is that Namora actually, you know, do something. She was absent for all of #4.

I wouldn't mind flashbacks, but not for their own sake. The flashbacks from #2-4 I just found largely confusing and unrelated to the present-day stories.

I like the flashbacks in AGENTS OF ATLAS. Issue #4 connected the last few of them to the main plot, and since this entire series is based on a bit of a retcon, that a team from a WHAT IF comic actually happened, the flashbacks are needed to iron out that backstory more than, "they saved FDR, and had other adventures together between then and the last mini". Hell, they even had an obligatory team-up in 1950's Cuba with Wolverine, and it didn't completely suck. Since issue #5 promises a showdown with the New Avengers, I am curious if that flashback from issue #1 with Logan will be mentioned.

They're a fun, quirky pulp team with a modern hook with DARK REIGN and some big ideas here and there. They're doing the "undercover heroes undermining crime from within" schtick a LOT better than The Shroud ever did. In an era when big name writers can indulge their ego's by having superheroes talk to walls or each other on a sofa for 19 pages, AOA is always a pleasure.

It would be nice if Namora did a bit more, but she had some focus in issue #3, and is just coming off quite a bit of time guest starring in INCREDIBLE HERCULES, so it isn't like she's Speed, forgotten and ignored. But I like all the characters almost equally, which is rare for a team book, but usually the mark of a good one.
