Did anyone ever catch this continuity error?

This should have been apparent from the trailers itself. Jameson can't fire Peter Parker. He's freelance. This is obviously an error on the writers part since they obviously blatantly forgot.

Has anyone discussed this yet??

I don't think its a continuity error. JJ characters is that he always fires people doesn't matter if they work for him or not he just yells it out.

Besides, "You're fired!" just sounds better than "I refuse to purchase any more of your freelance photographs. Good day sir. ... I said GOOD DAY!!"

And then Peter returns the ever-lasting gobstopper.

Yea, it's funnier that way.

This is funny because Jameson said you don't have a job here but when someone periodically is bringing in photos and getting paid for it...you pretty much have a job...just without a desk. James needs Parker for his fantastic photos and he knows this...he is just trying to scare Parker bying saying you're fired which he always says anyways. If you fire a freelance photographer...you are pretty much saying don't come back.

And should the person respond by pointing out that they are not in fact in his employ, JJJ will proceed to hire then re-fire them, which makes it even funnier.
I would like to see that make its way into the movies.

That's funny.
Even if he was begging someone to say it.

Actually, I woulda loved to hear Jameson spout those words.

On a similar note, anyone remember from the 60s Spider-Man cartoon this conversation between Jameson and Betty Brant.

JJ:"Call Parker and tell him he's fired!"
BB:"You can't fire him, he's just a freelancer"
JJ: "Well, have him put on the payroll, then call him and tell him he's fired!"

The reason Jameson can constantly do that is because Peter is a freelancer.

Peter is still hired as a freelancer, meaning they will take his pics in the future, but he doesn't have an "hourly" job, the best thing in the world. But he can still get fired and lose his freelance position, they won't accept his photo's anymore. Also it could be that he was slightly promoted from the last movie.

JJ says "your fired!" to pratically everyone it doesnt matter if you actually have a job or not.

(imagine JJ walking down the street and getting a hotdog at a hotdog stand, not liking the hotdog then screaming "YOUR FIRED!")

also in the first one when Peter takes in the pictures Jonah says," Freelance, best thing in the world for a kid your age, bring me some more photos of that newspaper selling clown and maybe ill take them off your hands, but I never said you had a job."

And then when he goes out to Betty she says," Welcome to the Daily Bugle"

I always took it that that meant that JJJ hired Parker, but since he is such a stuck up old coot, that he wouldnt come right out and say it to Peter himself, because that would be out of character for his persona.

LMAO! now i wasn't around then, but i think that's the funniest thing i've ever heard JJ say (other than, of course BB: "Your wife called and said she lost the check book." JJ: "Thanks for the good news!" <click>)
