Did Batman kill Johnny Gobbs?!

He proabably played a part in his demise. Maybe Batman scared him and he fell backwards over the side of the roof (which he didn't know ended right there). ?

it is most likely that mr gobbs did indeed get ripped and took a walk off a building.

rumours of the "supernatural" batman were starting to circulate Gotham and, as rumours tend to do, people created an urban myth around gobbs death saying that the bat got him.

"Those two just slipped on a banana peel"

Ehmm... Who is Johnny Gobbs? :$

He is the person (we assume a street criminal) that Eddie and Nick talk about on the rooftop just before Batman arrives. They argue over whether he was high on drugs and fell off a roof, or Batman did something sinister to him. But it's hearsay in both cases. It's really the perfect example of Batman's urban legend status in the first movie.

PJ just announced that hes going for a Feb. 2009 release date. For the 20th anniversary.

2009? Ah ****! That's way too long, I thought it was coming out this year :(

This fanfilm has been in production forever!

I got really excited after i watched that clip. I hope it looks pretty good after spending another year and change on it. Also, I really want to go watch tim burton batman film right now.

When that comes out I'm going to do a fan-edit of Burton's 89 with that fan-film.

Prologue looks to be high quality, except in the writing department. The plot reeks of desperate fanboyism to try and fix the Burton continuity to make Joe Chill the killer (and, in effect, make Batman's actions in B89 completely foolish). No insult inteded to Wares, but the film would be better served not dealing with an attempt to make a fanboy fix for the film and actually focusing on Bruce's (and Gotham's) origins.

I agree, I don't like them trying to fix that part either. It still probably won't come off well. I read on the site that what they're trying to do is have Joe Chill with Napier when he killed his parents. Don't know how it will work out.

The quality looks great, that clip and the pics I've seen got me wanting to see more. But the actor who is Napier and Grissam on the phone, sound like they're desperately trying to imitate Nicholson and Palance, so much that they sound stiff.

On another note, I hope they show what Batman does to Johnny Gobbs.

Nice thread, this stuff is fun to speculate about. I think Batman more than likely scared him so much that he either did him self in (walked off the roof by accident), or gave him a heart attack, because remember Johnny was probably on his own, not with another thug to share the experience with.

you guys should come and discuss this on the Prologue forum. There was debate on whether Joe Chill could have been that second mugger in the flashbak scene of 89. It ultimately came down to a quote from Uslan saying that they had that second mugger intentionally left "open" so that people could speculate that it was Chill.

Infamy, infamy......they've all got it infamy ;)

Well how can I not respond to this thread. IMO Batman did not kill Gobs and that is what Prologue is all about, to go further would spoil the plot, so I'll leave it there.

Let me start by saying that I've been hanging around here for quite some time and while I don't post here much, I always enjoy the threads in this particular part of the forum. DocLathropBrown, I can honestly say that from your posts you and I are on the same page with regards to B89. In that respect I hope you enjoy Prologue when it comes out. This whole film is being made for two reasons, firstly as a homage/love letter to those that made the wonderful movie that inspired Prologue and secondly for the fans of B89, of which I am one of the biggest and by all accounts you are too.

One of the things that I wanted to do with this film was to complement B89 in everyway and in no way contradict it. At the same time, I wanted to pay homage to Batman's long comic career to hopefully illustrate that Burton's take was far more faithful than the average fanboy gives him credit for.

While I am in no way insulted by your post, I do think that you are making quite the assumption that the script is weak.

Mr Socko, It should be noted that I'm not trying to 'fix' anything, I am purely speculating about what came before B89, much like you are all doing in this thread. I am not making Joe Chill the killer but I am giving the unamed 'Other Mugger' from B89 an identity, which is not Young Bob, which most people falsely believe.

Glad you're looking forward to more, sorry you didn't like the voices, I'm happy to say, you're in the minority based on the feedback I've been given. Your opinion does serve to demonstrate what I'm up against trying to make this film a faithful prequel though. No matter how close we come, this is not B89, I don't have anywhere near the budget, Michael Keaton isn't playing Batman, nor Nicholson Napier, but what I do hope is that we come as close as possible and the rest will be fondly excused.

It feels like it doesn't it. Intially it was due to be out this year, but a death in the family and financial troubles have caused it to be pushed back. One of the biggest problems with having so little money to do this is the delays that I'm sometimes faced with.

God Damnit, that is stupid.

Stupid huh? Well Noir if you've got a few thousand Dollars you could send me, I could certainly finish it a lot sooner ;)

January mate. 01/01/2009 The idea is to kick off B89 20th and Batman's 70th with a bang. 2009 is going to be the year of the Bat.

BATMAN: (holding Gobbs over a roof edge) I want you to do me a favor. I want you to - - -

GOBBS: Are you going to kill me?!

BATMAN: No. I've already said I'm not going to kill you. Now, about that favor. I want - - -

I am definitely looking forward to it, I always have. I'd forgotten about it and then I was simply blown away by the Youtube clip. Now THAT's a good fanfilm. Looks entirely professional. Simply stunning, and I fully mean that.

I didn't mean to imply that the script as a whole was weak, I just felt that the plot's very basis--to show us that Chill was the real murderer and not Naiper, that Bruce confused the two--is unnecessary. A different continuity, "deal with it" so to speak.

But now you're mentioning that your intention is not to contradict the film.... now I'm curious.... curious enough to think that I have definitely been premature, perhaps the script has twists on top of the twist identity reversal.

So I happily take back what I said, you've got me intreagued... perhaps there's more to this fanfilm's plot that first met my eye.

And on the subject of the voices... I thought they were excellent. They weren't 100% perfect... nothing except the real Nicholson and Palance would be... but they're spot-on "in the vein" of the two. Very, very reminicsant!

I think it's true to say that you are one of the biggest B89 fans out there based on your posts over the years, so your compliments are even more heartfelt and encouraging to me than an average fans. I very pleased that you've liked what you've seen so far and only hope that I don't disappoint in the long run. Thanks again.

By the way if anyone fancies contributing to the debate on my own turf, here's the url http://com1.runboard.com/bbatmanprologue

Hope to see you there.

i think he possibly could have, so i put yes. Burtons batman is the batman of the 1940's where batman killed often times then not. i thought that made him cool and deadly.

If he killed Johnny Gobbs, he would have killed the guy in the actual scene. Gobbs fell off the roof. Batman wanted Johnny Gobbs to spread the word, but Johnny tripped and fell.

i doubt that, too conincidental. the other guy didnt trip.

Is it really that coincidental that two guys would trip after seeing a guy dressed as a bat threatening them on a rooftop?

but if batman was grabbing him like he did the first thug, how could he trip?

He obviously had sex with him. Why else would he take a walk off a roof?

No big loss.
