mayyybeee, idk this is usually how a banner is constructed anyways

I think it's just a coincidence, as each movie had Batman and two major villains.

Coincidence, I think. Though yeah, I can see the similarity obviously.

Maybe WB still has some of the same marketing people from the 90s.

Coincidence. It's the usual way to present characters in a poster.

No chance. Nolan wanted to create his own 'Batman' so why would he reference Returns for? Many companies which make these posters just use their creative abilities to make something which looks good and sends the message across. This was proibably an easy way to do that, and it turns out to be a coincidence.

Nolan wanted his own Batman okay. But he kept the black armoured suit, the gauntlets the glider-cape from the previous series and he used the Cesar Romero's Joker clown mask for Ledger's Joker too. Sure, the poster might be a coincidence (as I don't think directors are the one designing the posters for starters) but as for references I don't think a couple hurt.

Nolan wanted to base Batman in reality, so having a suit that's not armor wouldn't work. Batman would be dead right away. The gauntlets are from the comics before the movies, and I don't remember the Burton Batman having a glider-cape (or at least being shown flying through the air with it).

The idea is great, I agree. But it could have been done differently. And to keep it all black did nothing but making it visually even closer to Burton's concept.

The gauntlets with the metallic sheet comes from Burton's.

???

Batman Returns, after the "kiss under the misletoe" kiss between bats and Catwoman. He turns the cape into a glider and flies a whole lot.

I've seen the bat-glider in comics but as a separate device, not the cape turning into a glider.
