I was reading David Benniof's first draft for Wolverine and it's the same story of the movie, with revisions made by Skip Woods. So, I tough It'd be nice to show those differences. Here are some:

- Benniof's draft is "R", while Wood's draft is PG-13.

- In Benniof's draft, Wolverine is more ferocious. He even swears sometimes.

- Benniof's draft begins with a flashback of Logan's childhood (Logan is his real name, and, when he was a kid, he lived in Canada's rural area. He'd be very poor and small, and would be know because his father stole a truck stop the previous year and got arrested. In the flashback, young Logan is bullied by four jocks while coming back from school and his mutation kicks in, as he violently attacks his bullies and almost rips one of them to pieces). In Wood's draft, this was changed.

- Benniof's draft went from the Flashback to the cabin scene, where Logan wakes up after a nightmare (The flashback) and sees he has trashed the sheets. Kayla is introduced in this scene. It's winter, instead of fall.

- In Benniof's draft, there's no Team X. Logan joined the army when he complete 18 and became Captain, under the comand of William Stryker. He did horrible things, and, tired of the all the slaughter, he ran away to Canada, where he met Kayla and settled down. Wood's draft has a slightly similar backstory.

- In Benniof's draft, Victor Creed is not Logan's brother. He's an mutant ex-convict that, after escaping an mutant prison called Ultramax, started murdering other mutants, because he came into possesion of a list of all the know mutants of the world, kept by the government. It's implied that the americans freed him so he'd hunt down the mutants. In Wood's draft, that was changed.

- In Benniof's draft, there's no Chris Bradley. There's Barnell Bohusk, a bird-like mutant who's part of the freak show of a carnival. the fly-girl Angel is also part of it, but she's not a mutant here, yet, Barnell has a crush on her. They're done playing cards when Victor knocks on Barnell's trailer and kills him.

- Stryker asks for Logan's help to stop Victor the same way, but, in Benniof's draft, there's not the Team X backstory.

- In Benniof's draft, Victor appears suddenly when Kayla is driving, causing her to crash. He get's closer while she tries to crawl from the debris. Also, Wolverine hears her scream, and doesn't deduce Creed's there because of the dead sheep (But the lumberjacks still find it) and the marks on the trees.

- In Benniof's draft, the fight in Cassidy's Bar and Grill is more violent, and includes Creed using a bat as a weapon, Logan setting them both on fire after destroying some beer containers, and Creed overcoming Logan, breaking his bone claws and ripping his skin so fast Logan's healing factor can't even keep up. Creed lefts Logan in a blood pool in the snow when he hears police sirens. In Wood's draft, that was toned down.

More to come! :woot:

- In Benniof's draft, the Adamantium bonding is made by dr. Abraham Cornelius and his assistent, Dr. Caroline Hines. Logan overhears them talking that he may not survive the experience, and something about Weapon XI, but he doesn't care. In this version, Weapon X is disguised as "Department of Agriculture".

- In Benniof's draft, during the Adamantium bonding, Logan has flashbacks of all the persons he killed during the Vietnam War, what makes him furious. We also see some of Stryker's crimes, like shooting a man in the head in cold blood, while wearing a necklace made of human ears.

- In Benniof's draft, Logan breaks free because he enters Berseker rage. He kills the Weapon X agents and runs to the woods. In animal state, he's attacked by wolfes and kills them, before the fights a squadron send to capture him. Because of that, Stryker sends his best man: Agent Zero.

- In Benniof's draft, Logan is still found by James and Heather Hudson, but the slapstick humor is not present. They're killed by Agent Zero. In this version, Zero is more mercyless, and he has tatoos of a family of spiders crawling down his neck. The chase scene is pretty similar.

- After killing Zero, Logan goes to Las Vegas, where he meets his old combat buddy, John Wraith. In Benniof's draft, Wraith is human, and he's more paranoic, like his comics version. He doesn't own a gym, and meets Logan in a bar, while they watch a TV add about mutants. Wraith has contactcs. He doesn't know where to find Creed, but he knows where to find his former associated, Fred J. Dukes, A.K.A. Blob, just released from Ultramax.

- In Benniof's draft, Dukes is in a small town, wreaking havoc on a supermarket, when Logan finds him, they fight, and Logan makes Dukes cry, and demands Creed's location. Dukes says he doesn't know, but Creed's former cell mate, Barbarus, knows. He's in the mutant club Superior, in New Orleans.

I may be mistaken, but isn't this present in the video game?

...a lot of this seems hit and miss. I do like the more animal like Logan and more violent, but some of the other stuff is just silly.

This version is much grittier, and I think it would've satisfied more fans, but not draw as much profit

Movie companies don't understand that characters like Wolverine, Elektra and The Punisher are brutal and merciless fighters and do not belong in a PG-13 movie. The second Punisher movie was more enjoyable than the first because it stayed true to his character.

I think you read the whole thing wrong. I have the Benioff draft and in it, Logan meets Wraith in his gym and the TV report about mutants being killed happen in a motel room where Logan stays for the night.

You should also mention that in this version, Victor Creed has no healing factor (you'll understand why later...)

with a budget over 100 millions..........it wouldnt.

but i think that a good WOlverine movie should not have a huge budget.

wolverine is an animal, doesn't make him brutal, most of the time in comics he just stabs a guy and they die...how is that brutal? They just need to have him act crazy and go on mass killing spree's..but definitely not brutal where he is cutting off peoples arms/heads etc.

I do think this movie should of been AA, and I think some of this script is better than what is out there, such as some of those starter scenes like wolverine and the jocks, etc. I'd much prefer that over the army scene however I liked the addition of weapon X team.

Wonderful! Now if we could only combine the two scripts we would have the perfect Wolverine movie... But teamwork is apparently lost on these people...

Yeah, the could have at least found a middle ground between the two scripts.

You guys don't understand. They didn't write two separate screenplays. They just took David Benioff's awomse script and put their spin on it. Skip Woods' script is just a PG-13 rewrite of the David Benioff's script. It's always the same process. David Benioff was hired, he wrote his script then the studio and the producers said: "that's good but we want to include Gambit and make it more PG-13 and have more action", so they hire another writer to accomodate the script to their vision. Then another execs would say: "okay now maybe we could toss Deadpool into this, introduce him for a possible spin off, that would just be a cameo", then they hire another writer to please their wishes. Then Ryan Reynolds is cast and they say: "wow we've to put more Deadpool in this" and another writer sinks his teeth into it. Then they hire Gavin Hood and he wants to change this and that (I think Hood wanted Victor Creed and Logan to be brothers) so they hire yet another writer to fulfill Hood's desires. Then the studio wants to introduce all the young mutants that will appear in First Class and so--"wow damn it! the writers strike starts in 5 minutes! Quick, you two! Yeah you two! What? I don't give a f*** that you're the janitors, rewrite this thing!"

That's just the process, the script is constantly flipped around until it's actually "filmable" which mean that they rape it in the process and I'm merely exagreating about the numerous writers tackling the Wolverine script. Check this out, here are the writers who worked on the screenplay: David Benioff, David Ayer, Skip Woods, James Vanderbilt and Scott Silver.

That's just how Fox works. They always rush things out and they just don't know how to writer a decent screenplay for a blockbuster.

But how many screenplays have just one draft or just one writer?

I like the idea of a mercenary team commanded by stryker over him just being in vietnam.

- In Benniof's draft, Stryker kills general Munson by poisoning his drink with a cardiact attack inducing toxin.

- In Benniof's draft, Logan goes to New Orleans to find Creed's ex-cellmate, Barbarus, a four-armed mutant. Logan enters a underground secret mutant club called "Superior", and fights Barbarus and his girlfriend, Pantera, decepating his arms off. Barbarus tells Logan Creed was released by the Department of Agriculture. I.E: Stryker.

- In Benniof's draft, Logan goes back to Canada, where he enters Dr. Hines house and interrogates her, demanding the truth. She tells him the real objective of the experience was to get Logan's DNA for Weapon XI. Logan demands to be taken back to Alkali Lake. There, he discovers Weapon XI is an army of Sabretooth clones, that would be injected

Wow. Benioff's draft doesn't sound so great if you ask me, no offense to him. He's got Logan being born in the, what, 1950s? At least the final film incorporated more elements from the comics, like Team X and the Origin backstory, even if only briefly. Also seems like there's a good bit more running around and "go here, talk to this guy, go there, talk to that guy" in the early draft.

And Cornelius is in the final film, not just in Benioff's script. I was wondering if he'd be in the Weapon X sequence, and bang, there he was. They never say his name, but its in the credits.

Dodged that one. phew.

I like Benniof's more.

Some of his ideas are pretty weak or lame still, but if you just make some slight alterations to them we might have had a much better film.

I think a Pg-13 Wolverine movie can be done and done well, but if you want to tell the Weapon X story, and do it right, it pretty much has to be a hard R.

Wolverine being born in the 1950's, no Weapon X team, and no emotional connection to Sabretooth/Wolverine before Silver Fox in any way bring this down from being an awesome script.

And not to mention the kicker,

Sabretooth...Friggin...Clones:dry:

No, not awesome at all.

Removing Team X is a plus, in my opinion. Having his history with Stryker be implied is better then showing his history with Stryker to show there really is none. :o

And I largely prefer the original script's version of Silverfox. She was a convict just like Sabretooth who gets a change of heart and saves Wolverine from Stryker's original plan to wipe Logan's mind. Unlike the final version, she actually got some character development.

The only thing the final script did that was better was get rid of the Sabretooth clones and add a relationship between Creed and Logan.
