Dimension Remaking Short Circuit

Didn't they gold plate Johnny-5's body at the end of Short Circuit 2?

Yes, after he became an American Citizen.

Cynthia Gibb was hot in that movie, whatever happened to her?

So i was reading the other day looks like dimension films might be in finanical problems. That sucks, i am curious to see what they would do remaking this film if it gets to that stage.

I still don't get the point of a remake. why not just do a straight sequel?
its not as though they are going to be able to show Johnny 5 much better. He was good enough as it was, a robots a robot.

Unless they want to CGI him! lol!
pointless!

And anyway, Short Circuit without Ben Javeri is tantamount to blasphemy!!!

Ben needs to be played by a real Indian Actor and not Fisher Stevens in blackface.

even though I'm not in love with Short Circuit (though I did watch it many a times when I was young) , why remake it?

yea i know when i first heard of these plans a year or so ago to remake johnny five i was like why oh why. It would have and still would be a cooler idea seeing him in today's world of more high tech stuff and him feeling more like yesterday's news or something type of story.

I doubt this even gets made, cause Dimension is just about so far in debt and may have to shut down.

Yea that is what i was pointing out earlier in my post. Though i still would love to see another short circuit film.

I think one of the biggest changes will be the Indian character. Either they will replace him with an American or they will make him the competent, intelligent and politically correct foil to the bumbling social outcast that is Gutenberg's character

Well we finally got some news on the remake:

Will Carr's Johnny Be Good?

Steve Carr ("Paul Blart : Mall Cop") will direct the long-touted remake of John Badham's "Short Circuit", according to Variety.
Scripted by Dan Milano ("Robot Chicken"), the remake is a robot reboot that brings the iconic Johnny 5 into the 21st century. Built by the military to be a highly sophisticated weapon, Johnny 5 develops a conscience and personality after being hit by lightning. He befriends a lonely boy and his fractured family.
Look, I know John Badham's not a master of the art or anything but he definitely knew his way around a fun movie - "Stakeout", "Saturday Night Fever", "War Games"; all exceedingly fun flicks - and I can't say that for Steve Carr. If anything, Carr's one of those last-minute gun-for-hires that seems to be able to effectively point and shoot - and work with kids. And, well, that's about it. He's usually hired to helm unmemorable, sometimes monotonous kids flicks - like "Are We There Yet", "Daddy Day Care", "Dr. Dolittle 2" and "Rebound", which suggests the "Short Circuit" redo will be even more family-friendly than the original was (and a fairly good chance Ice Cube or Eddie Murphy might star in it). If the latter bunch were good kids flicks, it'd be a different matter, but they're not, so, personally, I'm not holding out much hope for Johnny 5's rebirth.
But then Dimension don't seem to be about making the best movies possible at the moment, they're just trying to stay afloat, so if they can milk a few of these franchises they own the rights to (they've also got new "Scream", "Hellraiser", "Children of the Corn" and "Spy Kids" flicks on the way) they will - regardless of how sore the teat is.
(If they manage to bring Fisher Stevens back it'll score an extra star - or at least the one - from me).

Hmmm so this time be befriends a boy and his family. I dont know how i feel about this. Could work could be crap. I hope it turns out well. Crossing my fingers it turns out to be a decent remake.

After reading that one line synopsis, I'm not thrilled at all.

i'm not thrilled at all.

And for some reason, i was never bothered by Fisher Stevens in the original. I think it was suppose to be a caricature. I think because the character was so wholesome and good nature without being a stupid person, that it never bothered me.

Goin' down the 'lonely boy' route, eh? pretty weak... Still, I suppose my 'Johnny 5 goes on a killing spree' idea was too much to hope for.

well hopefully things will work out for the best. I will remain optimistic to i see footage on goodness or badness. Though since the originals was one of my fav films of the 80s i am going to see this so i can compare and constract the two.

so yea i was watching the new episode tonight of american dad, and their was a nice little parody of johnny five there.

The fact that Tim Hill is directing means that it'll be an awful movie.
