It's official. Ravi was released earlier today.

well...... as extremely short as that time was.... I really hope he learned a lesson... or something. Just doesn't seem fair.

He's a pariah. People will still blame him for the death. So, it's not like he can just forget about it and move on.

Kids have been grounded longer than that....

I can see him quietly finishing his degree somewhere else and moving to India soon after, to escape the social and professional consequences of his actions.

He won't have to do that....he'll get a job here....he will live a normal life, and another young man, lives no more. Very sad....

Actually, I was thinking he might move to India also because that's where a lot of jobs are now, too. :(

Well, actually they are moving here.....this year, immigration from Asia surpassed immigration from Latin America....but I definitely see your point. :yay:

While I believe the sentence was irresponsibly short (I personally think that he should've done at least six months for invasion of privacy), but him being released ten days early is nothing unusual. In big cases like this and Lindsay Lohan it gets extra attention, but due to overcrowding, usually only the most despicable, horrendous criminals serve full sentences (even on short sentences). It is just common place in our justice system. This is due heavily due to overcrowding and budgetary concerns.

Probably. Honestly, I couldn't recognize him by appearance and his name only stands out when I see it linked to articles. Granted, his name can be Googled pretty easily (forget about background checks) and that could create some difficulty for him....but eventually people will forget about him, it'll probably blow over and he'll find something if he finishes his disagree.

I know a number of Indian-Canadians who were born here or in the States who actually move to India after getting university degrees, because there are some better opportunities over there.

He wasn't being tried for murder. Well, not technically anyway.

I haven't really studied precedent. Can you be tried for causing someone to commit suicide?

From what I've just read the people (in Bully) sued the school (for not stopping the bullying). I should watch it though.

But then you'd have to prove that the actions perpetrated by the bully (in this case, a single individual) caused the victim to kill themselves. Assuming that's even allowed.

Man slaughter then...

It's not manslaughter if the guy commits suicide. Look, I think the guy deserved a few months in jail for the horrific invasion of privacy, but at the end of the day, the guy took his own life.

I agree. Determining the level of responsibility someone has for someone else committing suicide just isn't an exact science.
