Did the school not reprimand the teacher....it doesn't say in the article.

I don't understand sueing the school....I can understand wanting the teacher reprimanded, even fired....but moving, and still sueing the school sounds like an attempt to get money.

I'm honestly not sure. I'm hoping more details start to come out.

I don't know man...I find it strange too.

I think society is less tolerant of lesbians who are more butch so to speak...

That's probably true, popular culture has painted the picture of lesbians in a different light to reality, at least in most cases.

Society isn't tolerant of anyone that is perceived to be deviating from their prescribed gender role. Women who are butch are shunned as well as the stereotypical effeminate gay men. Butch gay men and so-called lipstick lesbians have it a bit easier, I think. But even though I think society is generally more tolerant of lesbians, gay men get a lot more in the way of representation. If a show has a gay character, it's usually going to be a gay man and not a lesbian.

That's a good point, you see a lot less hate stories about lesbians and it's usually male homosexuality that is at the center of various groups that want gay rights etc...denied. Yet as you say there are more male gay characters on TV than female, however I'd argue that most of them are the stereotyped representations, when lesbians are represented, for instance in a hit show like The Good Wife, it's always traditionally attractive females characters who don't "act" gay.

Overall, I'd lean toward yes. There is a perception out there that gay men are somehow weak and 'not real men'...no matter how ignorant that perception is.

This actually brings me to another question I was going to ask; we all know there are a number of shows/movies that have gay characters, and I doubt the time will come in any of our lifetimes where we see a big summer action film where the hero "saves the day and gets the guy", and you and I have discussed it before, but I'm interested in the views here on if we'll ever see a mainstream TV show or movie with a traditionally "manly" character who is gay?

Personally I doubt it as the lead, although I could see an action show/movie where the lead is a hot female lesbian as it's been flirted with in shows already. I do wonder though if an ensemble show in the CSI vein could try making one of the male detectives gay.

I'd say there will be a time when a tv show or movie will have a 'manly' gay lead. (It probably won't be 'the hero saves the day and gets the guy' though.) We already have gay actors in 'manly' roles. (Matthew Bomer in White Collar and Neil Patrick Harris in How I Met Your Mother.) I think it's only a matter of time before there is an actual 'manly' gay lead character on tv.

Mitchell and Cameron on Modern Family are more accurate representations of gay men. Cam is obviously a bit more stereotyped but they are incredibly well written and their sexuality is not what defines them on the show.

I guess there's no way to know how forgiving or understanding God is.

But I definitely think Jesus was a lot more tolerant and, dare I say, "liberal" than a lot of those who claim to follow him who frankly don't know much about him.

And when I say Jesus was "liberal", I'm not assigning him to a political party, I'm saying, by the standards of his time, Jesus was definitely a social progressive.
Which is odd, since he was supposedly God in human form. A bit strange for an omniscient, omipresent and all powerful being to change his mind.

Is Bomer actually gay? I don't think he's said anything one way or the other. And he does have three children (which doesn't really prove anything either).

I agree with you on TV characters... people are always wanting to push the envelope and do something new. Hell, LOGO could make a show like that if they wanted to... but they're owned by MTV, so they have that MTV mindset.. hence there's lots of reality shows and very little else. :oldrazz:

When it comes to movies, Brokeback Mountain and Phladelphia had masculine, realistic gay lead characters... but unfortunately, both of those movies were depressing as hell. :csad:

He's not out, but when he was questioned about it, he gives the kind of reply that Ricky Martin used to give about how he's happy where he is but doesn't want to comment any further than that. It's kind of a Queen Latifah or Jodie Foster-like situation where everybody knows about it, but the person just doesn't want to come out. I'm sure they have their reasons for that, though. It can't be an easy issue to deal with when your public image is such a huge part of your career.

LOGO would be a much better channel is they stopped playing RuPaul's Drag Race and Buffy The Vampire Slayer 24/7.

I didn't like the way Brokeback Mountain portrayed the relationship of Jack and Ennis. The ONLY sex scene we see between them is where Ennis basically raped Jack. It was pretty violent.

And now they are doing the same with Ab Fab... whenever they get a new show, they have to ****e the hell out of it, with hardly any variety in their programming whatsoever.

I agree. And even that famous line, "I wish I knew how to quit you," makes it sound like Ennis is more like a drug to Jack than someone he enjoys being with. I wish it had been more of a love story and less of a lust story.

Lol, Marx, you forgot to add a third option to the poll: for those of us who already live in countries with marriage equality. Even though I'm one of the few Canadians here, last time I checked over 63% of the registered users on SuperHeroHype are Belgians. ;)

Well...I wasn't sure how to word the question in the poll.

If it's already legal in your country, I'd vote 'yes'. :oldrazz:
