Anytime I see someone bring up a point like this, it’s immediately followed by a bunch of “Well, actually”s and at a certain point I just want to say “Shut the **** up and admit you put a higher value on your gun fetish and hero fantasies than you do on actual human lives.”

If, after a complete background check and proper training, people want to own firearms, I don't have much of a problem with it. To think you have the right to own a dangerous weapon with NO regulation is idiocy.

I don't own any guns but if you do I don't get why registering them is an issue. It's a weapon and you have to register lesser things like vehicles.

And have things like training so you don't accidentally kill someone. If you can't drive a car without passing a test, you shouldn't be able to own a gun without at least rudimentary training but we know the 2nd Amendment guys will hate that. "What, have people actually educated and trained how to use a lethal weapon?!? It's not in the Constitution!" but that's a weak argument.

Maybe Congress needs to get it's **** together and at the very least update the gun laws to the 19th Century instead of the 17th. I have no trust in their ability to get them to even the 20th let alone 21st but something is better than nothing.

While I'm not a legal scholar, my reading of the 2nd amendment indicates to me that it has nothing to do with an individual's right to own arms, but, rather, allows states to arm a citizen militia. While I don't oppose gun ownership by responsible, private citizens, I don't see it as a constitutional right.

Every gun owner should need to register their weapon. I don't see a problem with it. Doesn't take very long, not really a major issue. Background checks and waiting periods shouldn't bug anyone either. And we should also need to attend continuing comprehensive training as long as we own our weapons. All reasonable to me.

Depending on their mental health issues, yes. Some people have mental health issues which are perfectly fine owning a gun. Someone who has issues with control, or suicidal or homicidal thoughts thought? Or people who have certain other anti-social issues of course they should be denied.

I think the mental health angle needs to be carefully crafted into law so as not to unfairly target nondangerous diagnoses.

Agreed. I knew someone who was schizophrenic and I didn't want her carrying a water balloon. I was thinking along those lines.
