🇺🇸 Discussion: The DEMOCRATIC P - Part 3

US News
Personally, I think Gabbard is a fine candidate. I certainly don't understand how the likes of Bannon and Duke have backed her, other than playing mind games. I just hate how people are acting like trying to find a peaceful solution in Syria was a bad thing. Or ignoring the fact that Obama was also anti-gay rights until his views "evolved".

Regardless, Brown is the best out of those who officially are interested. I love Castro, but know there's too many idiots who will freak out at his name to be viable in swing states. It's looking likely that Beto will announce when he meets with Oprah, which will be huge. But if him and Castro go national, who is left to challenge Cornyn?

I mean, there is a second Castro. Beto could also make another run at it.

I didn't create this, but here's a little proffer on why liberals are skeptical about Gabbard.

A lot not to like about Gabbard there.

I think that's a bit of an understatement. I wanted to have an open mind but JEEZ... I started with, "Well she's just a more conservative Dem than most." That shifted to "I suppose she's found advantage triangulating a bit against her own party and leaders and that means sometimes making a grandstand to differentiate herself." By the end I was like "Oh... She's a reactionary that found it better to play to Dems to win."

She's seeming now like a bit of a female Lieberman.

That's a quality answer. I have to say... I'm usually very apprehensive about incoming flavors of the week... but AOC has been a refreshing change of pace so far. She's comes at things from a fresh perspective, and she is knocking it out of the park as far as I'm concerned.

Like this very argument... what other statesman or woman is out there right now, going "Apathy isn't the problem - it's that we're taking voters for granted." ? It's a really refreshing thing to here. I didn't even know that I wanted to hear something like that until I just read it. She feels very unscripted and as if she's not pushing the typical talking points; I absolutely love it.

Somebody called her the liberal Trump.

I can't speak to her level of intelligence yet, unfortunately. She seems very insightful and coherent as far as I can tell. What comes across for me is the energy, and the willingness to argue against the conventional wisdom. I suppose some people could think the same for Trump. But since he's an obvious moron, it's a little different.

I don't really see the comparison. For starters she is not a rich old white guy with the intelligence of a grapefruit who lies on a daily basis just going from one room to another. She hasn't made promises she never intends to keep or could never keep, she hasn't bankrupted herself several times over or not paid her workers. She isn't orange either. Nor has she thrown a temper tantrum on Twitter and shut down the government for over a month.

Where is the comparison coming from again?

I recall everyone's favorite MIA centrist said that, so it was coming from a disingenuous place.

A Hillbot centrist.

You think she can raise the top income tax to 70%? In the next two years or even later? Or do you consider that a goal but not a promise?

I see it as a goal, not a promise. I never read where she said she would just that she would try. Trump on other hand has promised a myriad of things that haven't happened. We're currently in a shutdown because he is trying to force a wall on everyone that only he and his blind faith supporters want.

I want Joe Biden as the nominee, with either Beto O'Rourke or Kamala Harris as the running mate. Whoever is not the running mate should be made Secretary of State.

I'd kind of like something like that.

Love this "Biden's being friends with some Republicans is problematic" line of accusation against him this week.

Yeah, dumbasses, that's why he can win. He can draw in the independent that went Trump in '16. But by all means, go with your Gillibrands or Bookers whoever, and lose.

Rooting for Mayor Pete, already donated, and planning on getting involved in any way I can in his campaign since he's the one candidate I can stand behind with utter conviction. He's one of the candidates who was endorsed by Obama as being the future of the party, he was also backed by Chief Strategist for Obama's campaign - David Axelrod.

Is anyone else here planning on getting involved in actual campaigning?

I think Dwayne Johnson should run. Go full hollywood reality tv/movie superstar mode

That would actually be... AWESOME!

BUT - then not so much....

It’d be awesome because he’s a Republican and he’d kick Trump’s butt in the primaries!

But, then a Democrat would likely fall to what the Rock is cooking as well...

I think he’s a more moderate Republican (or economically conservative, socially liberal) - but he’s just not the classical Presidential type. Politically he and Arnold probably think the same.

They chose Stacy Abrams to give the Democratic response to the State of the Union. Smart choice.
