Discussion: The REPUBLICAN Party - Part 16

Not really, unless the block grant is written in a way that would allow this which is unlikely. It's not just here's money spend it how you want. It's here's money it has to be spent on a food assistance program. These conditions must be met etc etc etc.

So you think if they give block grants the money would be distributed the exact same way no matter who the governor/state representatives are? You can't tell me that they won't come up with ideas that favor people that are more likely to vote for them

To the first part: no that's one the purposes of block grants though. Each state may face different situations and can tailor those programs to meet the needs of their constituencies.

To the last sentence: I mean, it's really going to depend on the structure of the block grants but if they are made properly this would be rather difficult to do. For instance, Canada's health care system is largely carried out through block grants.

I have to say that Governor Hayley's speech last night was the best Republican response speech I've seen in a while.

Hayley also handled the Confederate flag controversy well last year. She would will surely be on a short list of potential running mates.

I thought the substance was good but the delivery was terrible. It felt like she was just rambling off a bunch of talking points(it was obvious she was reading a teleprompter) while flashing a fake smile non stop for 10 minutes

As I predicted months ago, it's down to Trump and Cruz.

Trump will get the nomination. Europe's refugees cluster****s only bolsters his standing. Angela Merkel and Stefan Löfven are Trump's unpaid marketing interns.

The only alternative is Cruz, aka the Dark Horse. So you can forget about Rubio.

My not-so-serious speculation: Trump might broker a deal with the establishment. Maybe Mitt Romney as VP, and yes he will have to bury the hatchet. Cruz would be his Attorney General (instead of VP).

I agree with both these points.

Also agree here, but I she'd never be on a ticket with Trump. She's

A) A woman who isn't Sarah Palin
and
B) Sane

So basically Trump's running mate will be the severed head of Joan Rivers floating around in a Futurama jar.

I agree with both these points.

Something about Haley's smile bugs the hell out of me. It's sort of like when you watch Beauty Pageants you see the girls have a smile tattooed on their face non stop for the entire event, most can't pull it off and it looks phony

Slow down. We arent into the primaries yet and polls prior to the primaries arent indicative of who will get the nomination. Not enough americans participate in these early polls, because the way the data is gathered. And Im just not convinced the party is confident in him.

Trump can pull in the crazies and racists and bigots all day every day, but he wont win the general election with just those sorts of people and the RNC knows this. So unless Trump shows them that he can calm down, toe the line, and move back towards the center he doesnt have much of a chance of being the GOPs nominee or President. They arent going to nominate someone that would unite most sane forward thinking non racist people against the GOP.

As for Merkel and Löfven, personally I dont know anyone who even knows who those people are. Merkel has popped up on the news where I live but only a handful of times and is never a big topic. Lofven and Sweden are never in the news here. Granted my area isnt going to be the standard for the entire country, but I just dont think the average american across the country is keeping up with German and Swedish politics. People here have their own politicians and things to worry about.

I really don't know what is going to happen. But I believe - with reason - that the RNC has lost control of the situation. I mean, their counter-state of the union was by a woman who openly denounced her own party's frontrunner. Has that ever happened before?

Trump may go down in the polls, but if he doesn't... the RNC is going to have to yield to the will of their crazy base, or forfeit the election before it even starts. Trump and the Tea Party will go third party.

On the one hand the RNC having to yield to the monster they ignorantly created would be just desserts. On the other hand, if the Democratic candidate managed to screw up on a monumental level Trump could end up in the white house which would be a cluster**** of epic proportions. Then again, a horrific Trump presidency might put the final nail in the Tea Party and Far Right's coffin which would be a blessing.

Ya know what... **** this election. Can we just skip this mess and go straight to 2020?

Yeah it's pretty bad. I still have some hope that the "Trump bubble" will burst, and sanity will prevail. These polls aren't the best indicators, and I think when push comes to shove, most Americans - including Republicans - aren't going to take a huge gamble on this cartoon character running a country. But the mere fact that we are having this discussion - about the real possibility of Donald Trump securing the nomination of a major national political party -, is ****ing disturbing.

I can see it now. Trump gets the nomination, the RNC reluctantly goes along with it, and Hilary Clinton goes to jail for those e-mails... yep. We're ****ed.

Its like the plot of some stupid House of Cards ripoff. Trump is the idiotic racist masterminding his way to succes through sheer insanity and Clinton is failing her way to prison. Tune in November for the shocking conclusion!

I wouldn't call Trump a possibility yet. As you say, these early polls aren't really indicative of anything. How much damage could he do to Cruz that that 750K loan thing of Cruz's?

Its a great time to be a SF writer.

Not how much damage to Cruz.

How much of a boost for Trump at Cruz's expense. Any damage on Cruz ensures a Trump nomination.

I encourage anti-Trump people to spread the hate on Cruz....

:sly: So my my prediction comes true.

Can I get some examples of how Trump's a racist?

I couldn't help but think if a republican said this about a female democratic candidate how quick they would be labeled sexist.

So how can I say Haley seems to have a fake smile plastered to her face without being sexist? It's not like she is the only politician who uses fake smiles, but she is one of the worst offenders

I dunno that's sort of the point, I don't think what you are saying is sexist. It was more of a comment on how things are perceived by certain liberal groups these days.

And a lot of the hate and vitriol is coming from the left. A lot of it.

Yeah I probably should have used a better comparison point then a beauty pageant, but that is the first thing I think of when I think of fake smiles. I guess I could have went with at award shows when somebody loses and they putting on a fake smile since that is less gender specific. lol

And a lot of the hate and vitriol is coming from the left. A lot of it.

So in your eyes commenting on a fake smile somehow equals referring to all potential immigrants as some form of criminal?
