🇺🇸 Discussion: The REPUBLICAN Party - - - - - Part 20

McConnell, the man who is behind so much obstructionist and partisan politics suddenly doesn't want that anymore?

Damn that is some first class hypocrisy right there. Can't wait for the late night shows to take a jab at it.

Many are fiscally conservative in power, avoiding or eliminating deficits, at the state level.

Really? How often is that true? What about Sam Brownback, didn't he create massive debt in Kansas?

So we should assume fiscal conservativism is a lie only on the federal level? When has the federal GOP reduced the debt?

I still think this supposed small government ideology is a lie.

I think it was more that Brownback created a scenario where the government could not pay for the most basic things. I mean, when you have a GOP legislature full out revolt with a veto proof majority to raise taxes, you know things have been screwed amazingly badly. And Kobach ran on the message that they didn't go conservative enough.

Kansas is really the proof of concept that the GOP ideals do not work.

Setting aside the economy, there are two issues that unequivocally expose the falsity of their supposed desire for small government: marriage equality and women's rights. As long as the GOP fights a woman's right to choose what is done to her body and as long as they fight the right for all consenting adults to marry regardless of genitals they are the party of big government. More so than the Dems, because there are few things more personal and intimate than marriage and carrying a fetus within one's own body.

It's one thing to regulate businesses. It's one thing to regulate where when and how guns can be sold and to whom. It's one thing to collect more taxes to help less fortunate Americans. It's one thing to ensure all Americans have protection from bigotry in the workplace. It's one thing to regulate where when and how businesses can dump toxic waste. It's a whole other magnitude to tell a woman that she can not choose what to do with a fetus inside her own body. It's a whole other magnitude to tell a couple of consenting adults they cant marry, because their damn genitals are the same and because one old collection of books written by men 2000+ years ago says they cant.

What a surprise, Trump is pushing to install his rabid defender Jim Jordan to be top Republican on the judiciary committee even though others are more popular.

Didn't Jim Jordan have a big scandal recently where it came out he was defending some guy who was molesting teenagers? Will that be back in the news now?

Jordan was the guy’s assistant coach and some kids said they approached him and he ignored what was happening.

They literally have no shame. As seen with them pretty much sticking to Roy Moore after waffling for a little bit.

I know. I always trust that all people are good at heart, but people like Roy Moore or Mitch McConnell make that hard to believe sometimes. And how many times have I trusted in Susan Collins or Jeff Flake to cast a crucial vote that will save America - and they always fail me. Why am I surprised by them anymore? I keep wanting to believe that there is good in them, still.

Collins is as moderate as McConnell allows. You can bet your ass if he knew about McCain's vote ahead of time, he would have forced her to vote for the ACA repeal.

With a few more votes to cushion themselves, expect her to be more "moderate".

I hope so, but I can't trust them anymore on anything. I mean, when you can't trust someone to denounce a pedophile, you can't trust them on anything.
And we'll see how many votes they have to cushion themselves in the Senate, when all is said and done. :cwink:

She is only a moderate when it doesn't matter. It is going to matter a lot less with 1-2 more GOP votes in the Senate.

So McConnell blocked Flake's bill to protect Mueller. Guess his cry for bipartisanship lasted all of 24 hours.

When Dems get back control of the Senate, first thing they need to change Senate rules to stop this sort of abuse of power. A single senator should not be able to block a bipartisan bill just because he doesn't want a vote on it.

I doubt McConnell made it even a full 12 hours before he pulled some kind of partisan bull****.

What an a-hole. Not enough to police women’s bodies they now want to police what they wear.

How the **** would any guy know how much those clothes cost without being in fashion themselves? There are women out there that can make thrift store clothing look like something from a runway.

**** off, Eddie. You don't know ****.
