🇺🇸 Discussion: The REPUBLICAN Party - - - - - Part 20

A reminder that the party making it harder to vote probably isn’t the party that supports a true democracy.

I love this quote thought from Turtle about making Election Day a national holiday:

The bill, he said, would offer paid leave to “any federal bureaucrat who decides they’d like to hang out at the polls during any election.”

And what’s wrong with that? Maybe they can volunteer to help? Not everyone celebrates Veterans Day but it’s still a national holiday.

Last I checked "federal bureaucrats" dont make up the entirety or the majority of the voting population. And his opposition to paid time off especially pisses me right the **** off. I'd like to break his ****ing nose for that. Congress gets paid whether they do any work or nothing at all. They are frequently derelict in their duty and still receive top quality healthcare and a paycheck from our taxes. I bet that POS hasnt done an honest days work in decades. But he has the nerve to gripe about Americans getting a single day of paid vacation so they can exercise their right to vote.

That's the thing, the Trump-era GOP isn't even pretending to support democracy. They've trained their base to job on anyone who says "democracy" with a "LOL, Go back to civics class, we aren't a democracy, we're a constitutional republic". They have no idea what that means, but it's insane to realize they're openly fighting against the fundamental bedrock of America.

And waving American flags while doing it. They have no clue what patriotism is. They just thoughtlessly cheer whatever they're told to cheer. They're about as sentient as a laugh track.

I'm really unsure where to put this, I'm guessing this thread might be the most applicable. Haven't heard of the publication before, but Judd Apatow retweeted it.

Um.....

Reich Wingers voting for literal Nazis, Reich Wingers saying they wouldn't kill baby Hitler, Reich Wingers saying Hitler was "fine".... then these people wonder why they're labeled Nazis.

The best thing about this is she explicitly links Hitlers agenda to Trumps slogan. She just in essence said Trump is Hitler.

So the problem with Hitler wasn't that he was committing genocide, but that he decided to expand it outside of Germany. Got it.

Personally, I welcome Trump emboldening people to finally have the spine to come out and say the heinous **** they didn't dare say before so everyone can know what kind of person they are.

Which is totally not at all something Trump would do in an instant if he thought he could get away with it. He's already stemmed immigration legally and wants to deal with the illegal immigrants. He's more than once suggested "unpatriotic" people should be kicked out of the country.

It isn't genocide yet but it is on the stairway leading to it.

He also suggested Democrats not applauding for him during his first State of the Union was “treasonous”.

Ethnic cleansing seems more appropriate.

There’s something up with Graham. His support has been much more marked these past few months. I suspect he’s compromised.

Very disappointing.

The Washington Post - Why Donald Trump Jr.’s ‘loser teachers’ comment was ‘a chilling moment’ for educators around the world

The president’s son [Don Jr.] drew cheers when he urged young conservatives to “bring it to your schools” (though he didn’t say exactly what “it” was) because “you don’t have to be indoctrinated by these loser teachers that are trying to sell you on socialism from birth.”

Many Republicans have been turning their backs on education. They see education as the loss of their future voter base.

Teachers who go to work every day and try to make a difference with the young people who are the future of our country getting called losers by a moron who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time and would be dead in a ditch without nepotism from Daddy.
