Discussion: The Second Amendment IV

The vehicle gets searched and they find an unregistered handgun and the driver has none of the required permits. Bang, 10 years in federal prison.

These laws get out of hand in a hurry and land innocent law abiding people in prison.

All a person has to do is cross the line into another state where his/her handgun is illegal, and now they go from being a law-abiding citizen, to a felon who must do 10 years in prison? That's not the country our fore-fathers fought to create.

Which is why there should be a FEDERAL weapons permit that has the same testing, background check, costs, etc.
After all, 99.9% of people claim that the 2nd amendment (FEDERAL) is what allows Americans to possess firearms to begin with.
This permit would be accepted across all states.

Exactly. Just like your car and driver's license. State regulated, nationally recognized.

Also, by taking anything into a state where that item is illegal, you are no longer a law abiding citizen.

Looks like I'm going to be writing to some politicians...

This coming week may set a record for gun sales.

  • Banning the possession — not just manufacture and sale — of magazines holding more than 10 rounds. 'Eh...
  • Making possession of hollow point bullets and similar “assault bullets” a felony.
  • Requiring anyone wishing to buy ammunition to first get a permit by passing a background check. I like this one.
  • Requiring the registration and reporting of all ammo purchases. Limits the number of rounds anyone can have at one time to 500 rounds. Don't have a problem with that one.
  • Requiring all gun owners will have to be licensed like drivers, and will be forced to carry gun liability insurance. Good with this.
  • Banning any gun that has a detachable magazine, and requires a 100% prohibition of all fixed magazines greater than 10 rounds.
  • Making all previous grandfathered magazines become illegal, and it will become a felony if you keep one.
  • Prohibiting anyone barred from owning a weapon from living in a home where weapons are kept Probably not a bad idea.
  • Expanding the list of crimes that would bar a person from gun possession. Works for me. Especially drug crimes.
  • Letting the state Justice Department use money from the state’s Dealer’s Record of Sale system to eliminate the backlog of people identified as no longer allowed to own guns but not yet investigated and contacted by law enforcement. This wasn't already a rule?

im glad I live in the state of Texas... neither Texas representatives, nor its citizens/militia/military will put up with that type of crap.

we will fight down here if it becomes necessary.

The hollowpoint bullet thing can be rather myopic. You risk over-penetration with round-nose bullets much more than a lighter hollowpoint designed not to. There are hollowpoints that are designed for penetratoin as well, but by design, what makes a hollowpoint more lethal also makes it safer.

The other thing is that current owners that are forced to turn in certain kinds of firearms or magazines that they paid for aren't going to just want to do that for free. And people who sell them aren't going to just offer free trade-ins for compliant accessories if they had to pay to stock up on them. So if the govt. is looking to, as many gun owners fear, literally take their guns and not offer to compensate...are they going to do it by force?

And there's talk of it here in Oregon as well. Californians move up here and instantly try to make it like the state they just left. Bunch of locusts is what I consider those leaving CA and then wreck havoc on their next state.

Both Oregon and CA are the Liberal capitals of the country. My wife and I were thinking of moving to Oregon a few years ago for a nice change of pace, but found out how liberal it is up there and said **** it.

You have to include WA in that discussion as well. As for Oregon, you get outside Eugene, Portland, and to a lesser extent, Salem, the state is pretty conservative. It's just all the Californians have moved into the cities and end up controlling how the rest of the state is run. I've grown up in OR so am kind of used to the garbage that spewed from the locals and politicians.

Just shoot'em, while you still can. :oldrazz:

I wonder how they'd regulate people who reload.

Heck, they should just load dimes...it'd be hella cheaper.

Your loss. OR is the best place I've ever lived. I'm living in Hawaii, but I'd rather live in Oregon, to be honest. I could spend the rest of my life there.

If you can get past the politics, it's really not that bad. Weather is mild, although a bit wet, but it doesn't really get too hot or too cold and whatever weather you get never lasts that long. If your an outdoorsy person, it's an absolute playground. Lots of open space, green trees, and best of all, peace and quiet.

That's kind of a dumb reason not to move somewhere.

I lived in a Conservative state and did just fine.

http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2013/02/cleveland_police_chase_and_shooting_scene.html
A November car chase ended in a "full blown-out" firefight, with glass and bullets flying, according to Cleveland police officers who described for investigators the chaotic scene at the end of the deadly 25-minute pursuit.

But when the smoky haze -- caused by rapid fire of nearly 140 bullets in less than 30 seconds -- dissipated, it soon became clear that more than a dozen officers had been firing at one another across a middle school parking lot in East Cleveland.

Soon after the shooting stopped, one officer rushed to check the two occupants of the 1979 Chevrolet Malibu that the cadre of Cleveland cruisers had followed into the lot.

Officer Wilfredo Diaz, a former city EMS worker, had fired the first shots at the Malibu after bailing out of his car. He felt for passenger Malissa Williams' pulse.

There wasn't one.

Diaz moved Williams' leg slightly to look for a gun. Again, there wasn't one. Dead next to Williams in the driver's seat was Timothy Russell, 43. No officers were injured.
:funny:

At least no cops were injured from shooting themselves.

Other than the liberal factor, I kind of agree with you about it being my loss. We like pretty much everything else about Oregon. It's not exactly off the table. We just need to put more thought into it.

The biggest problem with being conservative or liberal, and living in a state that leans the other way is, your political voice gets lost. I mean, a Republican in California has about as much impact as a Democrat in Texas.
