Wow, what a dope. I could have scored the movie better with a CD burn and a copy of Final Cut Pro.

Way to go Ottman, you made it sound like freaking Pearl Harbor.

Other than that it was an awesome movie.

I usually do not like him. His X-Men and Fantastic Four scores both were not good, but this one was excellent.

yeah, I noticed that too, mainly 'cause I was humming along in my head.

I actually loved the themes that Ottman came up with for the movie and thought they fit the tone really well. Superman's Personal Theme and Lex's Theme are benchmarks in Ottman's career, IMO. My only problem with the score is that it tended to turn generic during action sequences and in some of the quieter personal moments. However, I am not going to lay this blame all on Ottman. Cinema history is filled with ebbs and tides on the use of strong themes and an almost "in your face" score. Williams and Goldsmith seemed to harken back to the times of Waxman and Herrmann.

It seems that most modern films are tending to go with more ambient scores rather than following a leit motif concept. It is obvious in the works of Zimmer, Ottman, and even Elfman. So I blame it mostly on the type of music expected in films today rather than just on each composer.

I also am not going to criticize Ottman for being "no John Williams". That's just ridiculous. Of course he's not John Williams. It's like criticizing every movie by saying "it's no Godfather." And even John Williams isn't much like John Williams. He's got a few standouts but I was disappointed for most of his score for Sorcerer's Stone and his Star Wars prequels. I prefer his work on A.I. and Catch Me If You Can where he's actually exploring different musical styles rather than just his signature John Williams brass heavy orchestra work when most of the incidental music can be interchanged with his other films.

He scored the emotional music throughout the film at the pivotal scenes where they played much better than Williams. I didnt see anything like that in the earlier 4 films.

I feel that the score was perfect for the movie. I would have been upset if they didn't have John Williams' in it. The score for Superman 3 sucked and brought back the original theme in Superman 4. I was surprised that Ottman's score was not as bad as i thought it could have been. If were Singer I would have begged John Williams to do the score!

shut your cake hole. Honestly, the complaint thread is for other stuff. Not something that is specifically aimed at a single aspect of the film...

now, I agree with the thread on some level. But i think the score was great, the CD sucks balls though.

But the complaint about the finale music. If anyone noticed, and I hope you did, the slow build up to the march wouldn't work with the ending of SR. Why? Because Superman flies for a hell of a lot longer in the finale momment than in STM and SII. This is just supes suddenly in space. There that whole 40-50 second sequence of him flying through the clouds, where the camera loses sight of superman, does this awesome roll to bring superman back into view.

the extended flying bit at the end of the movie, changes how, and what music was needed for the scene. So I have no beef with the finale.

My beef is with the score that they are marketing, infact, it's the one being advertised on banners around the hype right now. That CD licks serious donkey nuts, and should be replaced quickly with something a little more representative of the movie.

If anything the AMC/ Fandango theaters need to boost that volume on this film!

I will admit that there should have been more fanfare, but he did an amazing job. Even though he ripped off a couple of people he still did an amazing job. He perfectly captured the epic feel of the movie.

Ott-Man updated the love theme to make it less whimsical. I guess the 70s were whimsical but nowadays people dont go for that stuff or listen to bands like the beegees.

that was definately his greatest achievement with this score. No more monologue (pukes in mouth), and a little more ochestral, and a little less, you uses whimsical, I'll use gay (not in a homosexual way, but more in that effeminate manwoman kind of way)

lest i be mistaken, the song they played when the cast walked out at the Movie Awards was "Superman" BY REM.

And I believe the one from TV spot # 2 is called "The Rescue" by American Hi-Fi...
