Walken was basically given the role in a similar vein of Louis Prima, kind of a somewhat modern day vibe.

Question for those who have seen it: I didn't particularly care for the original animated Jungle Book (aside from Shere Kahn and Kaa, who were awesome). Not counting the anthology films of the mid-to-late 40s, I would consider it to be the second worst of the feature animated films started during Walt's lifetime (Alice in Wonderland being the worst). Is this new film different enough that I might like it or it is just basically a live action version of the original?

Quantico's Priyanka Chopra is the voice of Kaa in the Hindi/Indian language version of the film

There's just something about talking animals in live action that doesn't work for me. It's fine in a cartoon, but in a live action film it just seems silly to me. I can't recall ever seeing a movie where it worked. Maybe Lars Von Trier's Antichrist.

Babe. Which got nominated for seven Academy Awards.

My freaking hero. I can NEVER understand why people love that version of Alice so much. They took a character who's supposed to be a curious little girl and made her into a bumbling idiot who looks older than she's supposed to be (I blame the animation on that age glitch). At least Burton's movie was trying to do something different and be a sequel to the books and not be another re-hash of the source material (and yes, I like the Burton film btw).

I think it's Burton as his worst, and shows how he works better with set-work and less CGI. The new Alice looks way better because effects have improved.

Those first reviews convinced me to see this in 3D, which is something I almost never do.

And yet the new one wants to shove Hatter down people's throats at the expense of pushing the other supporting cast members off to the side, something the first movie DIDN'T do!

Did we see the same movie? Because that's exactly what the first one did. It was the Mad Hatter show co-starring Alice.

That was exactly what I was thinking, and I like it. :funny:

By the way, love the animated Alice. One of my favorite Disney animated flicks.

Plus, who was front and center on the movie posters of the previous AIW? Mad Hatter.

This opens a week early down here. I'll give it a look on Thursday.

Haha what are you talking about?

I've been living under a rock. Only found out about this yesterday lol. The trailer is amazing!

It's probably different but taking cues from the 1967 films with things like Baloo being a goofball, Kaa wanting to eat Mowgli, and King Louie.

Also is there any chance that this film used more elements from Bill Peet's original script for the animated Jungle Book?

I hated The Jungle Book (along with Alice in Wonderland and The Sword and the Stone) as a kid. It is good to see this film with good reviews.

Were you atleast a fan of the Rudyard Kipling Jungle Book tale?

No sir, I never read it. I vaguely remember watching the live action 90s version.
