It is going up at least.

I don't know what it is this and Mary Poppins look like just two misses imo. (this coming from a huge Disney fan)

They're not going to be able to recapture the magic that all the originals had.

Whoever is in charge of approving those budgets must come to his senses asap. You'd think they would have learned a thing or two from the AWIT/The Nutcracker fiascos and the underperformance of MPR but here we are...

Yeah. I know this movie requires a lot of CGI but I can't seriously believe that the budget needed to be THAT high.

Disney need to be brave enough to develop new movies with new stories and characters.

And Aladdin will probably be the third miss in a row. At least Lion King feels like it's going to bring some of that old magic back.

Much like MPR, I didn't expect Dumbo to make money either, and didn't expect it would be all that great of a film. But a splat? I figured it would be in the 65-75 range on RT but 53% is a little suprising.

Aladdin will make money, maybe not Lion King money, but it will make $500-600M WW. Howevet, if it's in the 50s on RT, Disney might need to pull the plug on these remakes.

I thought this was a little better than I expected. Starts off really slow, actually, but once Keaton shows up things pick up and the second and third acts are entertaining. I think it'll have a decent WOM for families to go see, my theater seemed to enjoy it.

I mean, considering the IP and director I think the budget is fine. It will probably be a modest hit. BTW I have no interest in the film.

Dumbo hasn't really bombed yet, but it's reviews aren't very good.

Is it that surprising? Tim Burton is not the filmmaker he once was. His Alice in Wonderland was not very good either. The movie never especially looked that good.

I thought this looked a little more interesting than most of their remakes since it at least appeared to be doing something different than just copying the original film, but I guess it isn't from the reaction.

Dumbo is a really old cartoon and while the character may have endured I don’t think the movie itself has the same nostalgia factor as an Aladdin or Lion King.

I caught this last night. It's a fine movie, but nothing special. It at least does something different with Dumbo overall. Yeah, it has some of the same plot elements, but it's still very different. I'd say it's a 3 out of 5 type movie if I am being generous. Possibly a 2.5

I actually liked it. It's not great by any stretch, but it has great moments. I liked it a lot better than any other Disney remake sans The Jungle Book. If you want to feel bad for a little elephant and have some effective Burton imagery, it does the trick.

I keep hearing from some people that the message and certain undertones of the movie are a huge "take that" to Disney and even Walt himself. How the hell did the company ALLOW that to get pass them?

Yeah im not sold on Aladdin but will admit looks 100x better than the first trailer.

I take it they got rid of the smoking crows?

Well, technically/mathematically, they're mixed. But I guess we're in the "binary era." A movie is either fresh or rotten - nothing in between. :word:

Michael Keaton’s character V.A. Vandevere is like an amalgamation of P.T. Barnum and Evil Walt Disney, right down to his “Dreamland” amusement park that suspiciously resembles Disneyland. Also the way he preys on and consumes smaller circuses.
