John Carter was a good movie. Lone Ranger wasn't.

Didn't they do this already 20 years ago?

Yeah with Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli.

I wonder what the reactions would be today if they cast a Chinese-Hawaiian as an Indian character. Even though Indians are considered Asians I think there might be some sort backlash.

Does anyone know if there was any backlash back in 1994?

Checked. It was 9 years ago. Didn't think it would be 20 because I was a kid when it came out.

I'm pretty sure I heard in the report about Disney wanting to make this for a while that it would be talking animals again. Just hoping they stick by that.

get that kid from life of pi:yay:

I remember watching the live action Pinochio as a kid... oh man I was horrified

I would not be surprised that if the reason this took so long to get going. Is because they were making their own real Jungle this entire time somehow

I'd see a new live action Pinochio. Don't think they have ever got that one right or had the budget to do so. But yeah, theres some disturbing **** in that story.

Maybe they should skip Jungle Book and do another "based on a ride" movie...

Disney's The Jungle Cruise.
Coming Soon

People had better things to do with their time back then.

Is it weird that I want the animals to talk in this?

The animals should talk. They talked in the book, they talked in Walt's - classics. They don't tak in the 94 film - forgetable. They need to talk.

Bet £10 the animals will be mo-capped in this

Disney is turning to Jon Favreau to helm its live action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book.”

The studio is in negotiations with the “Iron Man” director to turn the film into a new family franchise for the studio. Favreau, who is repped by CAA, has been developing Disney’s tentpole “Magic Kingdom,” set inside the company’s theme park.

Justin Marks, who previously wrote “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” for Disney, is writing the script. Project could go into production next year.

Script will focus on Mowgli who is raised by animals in the Indian jungle, where he befriends a bear and panther and is hunted by a vicious tiger.

Disney, of course, also produced the animated classic “The Jungle Book,” which was released in 1967.

Disney Theatrical Prods’ musical, also based on the Kipling book, went live June 21 and will play in Chicago through Aug. 4, when it moves to Boston’s Huntington Theatre in September. Musical is adapted and directed by Mary Zimmerman (“Metamorphoses”) and stars Akash Chopra as Mowgli.

CAA also reps Marks, along with Madhouse Entertainment.

Deadline first reported the news.

'Jungles Book' Hits Theaters in 2015

Briefly: It's time for one more film to join the 2015 calendar. Disney is already releasing Star Wars: Episode VII, The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, amongst some other titles, but now they've also announced that The Jungle Book will hit theaters on October 9th, 2015, with confirmation that Jon Favreau will direct the film based on Rudyard Kipling's classic book. It's the first film to be scheduled for October 2015, so it has no competition yet.

Some Indian people tried to launch a protest, but the second someone talked about "yellow-washing," everybody started giggling and nothing got done.
