Disney has cast newcomer Neel Sethi as Mogwli in “The Jungle Book.”

Jon Favreau is directing the live action film from a script by Justin Marks.

The 10-year-old Sethi, from New York, was chosen from among thousands of auditions that took place from Gotham to New Zealand, London and Canada.

“The Jungle Book” will be Sethi’s first acting role.

“Casting is the most important element of any film and finding the right kid to play Mowgli was imperative,” Favreau said in a statement. “Neel has tremendous talent and charisma. There is a lot riding on his little shoulders and I’m confident he can handle it.”

Casting director Sarah Finn described Sethi as embodying “the heart, humor, and daring of the character. He’s warm and accessible, yet also has an intelligence well beyond his years and impressed us all with his ability to hold his own in any situation. Even though he has no professional acting experience, his natural charisma and instincts jumped out at us.”

Sethi will be the only actor seen on screen in the film, with the rest of the characters created as computer-generated creatures.

Disney will release “The Jungle Book” on Oct. 9, 2015.

i think he will be a good Mogwli. but some SHH members will be angry. he is not looking like a white white white boy. he wont have an US,canadian or australian accent.

i have a feeling this will be a good Favreau movie.

When has anyone ever complained about a non-white actor playing a non-white character?

I didn't even know Ben Kingsley was playing Bagheera in this. Awesome.

Rue in Hunger Games but I don't think that happened here.

Lord that one still made frustrated to this day, it's like they feel they're being cheated somehow because they feel it's less to barely tragic to mourn over a black girl than a white girl, even though Rue and Tresh's descriptions is clear as day in the book. Gah, feel like flipping over a table.

So Johansson and Nyong'o Is confirmed?

I remember the baffling racist comments made by people on Twitter about the casting of Rue.

Like this one girl said she couldn't feel sympathy for Rue's death because she's black. awful.

Duh, it doesn't matter when we die.

Idiots are everywhere.

Wonder if there was anger over the 1994 Jungle Book casting a Chinese actor as an Indian character?

Number of people anticipating racism: 1
Instances of actual racism: 0

Just keeping track in case people lose count.

Sounds like good casting to me, i do wonder who comissioned the project, Disney already had another adaptation, my guess is that Joss Whedon was the one that showed interest, hopefuly this will allow him to make more big budgeted projects after the failure of Cowboys & Aliens and coming out of the smaller scale Chef.

I just wonder how different this version and Andy Serkis's version are going to be? I mean, they're both basically telling the same story from the original novel and are both using CGI mixed with live-action.

Is this to be a more faithful adaption of the book, an adaption of the cartoon film or something different?

My guess is that Favreau's film will be closer to the Disney cartoon and Serkis's film will follow the book more.

That would make sense as Disney differed greatly from the darker aspects of the book.

Looking forward to both adaptations, actually.

They got a musician for the Disney film Louis Prima, they should do the same for this one. CeeLo Green for King Louis!

I swear, if they don't get the most obvious casting of all time (John Goodman as Baloo) I'll make them pay dearly!

Awesome casting for both roles. I hope Walken is at his most Walken for King Louie.
