TV Disney+

General Television
I said it before in this thead. It's not just about properties.
-Disney has 3 of the biggest film franchises ever (MCU, Star Wars, and Pixar)
-They're branding is so strong they can have a gang of stores completely dedicated to selling their product. They're also strong enough to have humongous international theme parks. WB might have Six Flags, but Six Flags is no Disney World/Land
-They own all of their content out right.

No other studio is in this position. Comparing Disney to other studios at this point is like trying to compare every current NBA player to Lebron James. Some people are just on a completely different level. And that's Disney.

WB could be doing better for sure. But there's no way aaaaaaaaany time soon that they'll be able to compete with the Disney's almost century of brand building

I never talked about competing on the same level but roll out, amount of content, strategy. WB is probably still twiddling their thumbs about 2021 HBO MAX content outside of the movies. And even if we talk about Marvel/DC, look how thought out they are compared to DC. WB needs to fix that once and for all.

I have Far From Home and Homecoming ranked 14 and 15 respectively on my MCU list so not majorly hyped for Watts but I'm still excited.

He will get fun, funny performances from the doubtlessly perfectly cast leads. I expect it to be very generic MCU, but that's still fun even if it is underwhelming for such a big property.

Wait they're making a Buzz lightyear prequel.

I mean that's interesting but jeez
Not really. It's a movie within a movie.

It will be average for the MCU but still pretty entertaining I expect.

If one thing is for sure its that Disney definitely know how to do presentation for some of their biggest draws being Star Wars and Marvel and that's the kind of confidence you want to see from a major studio. This honestly felt like a mini Comic-Con in a way and I was not expecting nearly as much as we did get today.
It was basically a better managed version of DC Fandome that wasn’t for fans. I’d argue this presentation was even better than last year’s Hall H comic-con panel.

I dunno. Ranking the top 13 MCU movies is like splitting hairs at certain points, so being 14 and 15 to me isn't essentially bad. :o

This was really well presented with a minimum of fluff and tonnes of megaton announcements mixed within snappy updates of known projects. I did really enjoy Fandome too though.

I can't imagine WB/HBO, Netflix, or any of the other major streaming services liked what they saw out of Disney's presentation today, especially the number of subscribers they've already got even though they aren't in every country yet and the sheer amount of projects coming from their major IPs.

Not liking doesn't quite cover it lol. Those purchases of Star Wars and Marvel made way before people knew of the upcoming streaming wars look very cheap now.

MCU Spider-man is my favorite live action Spider-man so I don't mind Watt's.

People forget Spider-man has been on the financial decline in North America since Spider-man 1.

Watts was the first director to reverse that trend.

And getting a committee checklist for Spider-man probably saved the franchise. It's exactly what FF needs.

Lol its true and it's a testament to Bob Igar legacy. He had the foresight to see the potential and he's certainly seen the rewards of his investment be bountiful.

what worried me: where was the info on that Monsters@Work series?
It was postponed from a 2020 release and now no word for the upcoming years.
That was my most anticipated series outside Marvel and Starwars

It's honestly rather impressive that Disney has seemingly made Star Wars and Marvel that looks "close enough" to the flicks for streaming. They have definitely set a new bar.
They’ve made them close enough by spending close enough to film budgets. :hehe:

But that demonstrates real commitment and real belief in what they are setting out to do which is very impressive. I was always hoping TV would one day get production standards like this. I’m so much more into long form storytelling rather than trying to create depth in 2 hours or so.

Well... half the budget. :hehe:

My brother and I were watching the trailer for his boyfriend Bucky's show, and in the middle of it I said, "the Star Wars shows look better" and his replied without hesitation, "so just like the movies". :funny:

It's a movie series, and it's just not been discussed yet. If it's cancelled, they haven't said anything about that, if it's happening they also have said nothing in a while. So Schrodinger's cancellation for now, I guess.

If I were forced to make a bet: it "got cancelled" a while back, but it was so unformed that this barely changed anything. IOW, it was never more of a thing then "Lets have this guy do something".

Cant wait for all the Star Wars series.

Though I have to question...is there a "future" in Star Wars? They've found most of their success during a very specific period and present day doesnt seem to be that yet apart from the Ray trilogy.

HBO better announce a bunch of Harry Potter spin off shows. And a bunch of DC shows set in the same universe (neither of which will happen lol)

I mean, they used to have a future, but then they killed it dead with the sequel trilogy. Though to be fair, the future as it existed in the EU was also a dumpster fire. So. . .

How long before they delve in the future beyond the sequel trilogy? I mean there’s still a lot to cover between episodes 1-9 but I’d be curious to see what happens after Rey and Finn
