Disney's Frozen - Part 1

No this is the Renaissance part 2, electric boogaloo. Princess and the Frog was a disappointment that led to a bunch of animator layoffs and completely changing how they marketed films like Tangled and Frozen.
Princess and the Frog was somewhat of a disappointment financially, but that doesn't change the quality of the film, so I stand by my comment.

"The Princess and the Frog" is ok. But I wouldn't say it is anywhere near the quality of the best of the first or now second Renaissance. Tangled, Ralph and Frozen are all much better films imo. (Note I am living out the Pooh film which I like quite a lot)

But quality is only part of it. There are many parallels between Tangled/Frozen and Mermaid/B&B. The climate they came into, bringing life back to the Princess genre, the actually films. Not to mention the united animation style.

So which future Disney will be The Lion King :wow:

if Tangled is considered the Little Mermaid of the new renaissance, it's kind of fitting that Rapunzel herself is something of a "renaissance girl."

she has multiple talents and hobbies - she paints, bakes, reads, knits, plays guitar, sculpts clay, makes candles, dances, climbs, charts stars, etc.

Princess and the Frog was better than Hercules, Tarzan (although I did really like that movie), Pocahontas, etc. Really the only ones that I'd rank above it are the big ones (BATB, TLM, Aladdin, TLK) and MAYBE Mulan and Hunchback.

Plus she wants to be "Part of Your World." My only problem with the analogy is that Mermaid was quite literally a breath of fresh air. A genuine masterpiece of animation and music. I am not sure that I would call Tangled that, as much as I enjoy the movie.

well, Tangled was a breathe of fresh air to me........:o

I freaking love Hercules, so I definitely can't agree on that. Actually, I wouldn't take it over any of them.

Also you basically proved my point. If it isn't on the level of the big ones, how can it possibly be the start of the new Renaissance? You need that kind of film to do that. One that is both great and appealing to the masses.

It might not quite be a "masterpiece" (I'd say it is but that is another debate), but it was most definitely a breath of fresh air. It gave the genre more modern sensibilities just like "The Little Mermaid" did.

Wreck It Ralph was a bit surprising in the degree it spent focusing on the Candy game world but I really love that movie. The story and characters are great but really the film did a lot of creative things just from an animation standpoint.

so I see Despicable Me 2 is still playing in some theaters.

Do you think they will keep Frozen playing in limited theaters for that long?

I'll agree with the TLM/BB and Tangled/Frozen comparisons. Tangled gets points for modernizing the fairy-tale, animated musical thanks to being the first one in CGI. Frozen is just a product of that awesome momentum built upon it, same with BB. The first respective films laid the foundation for the latter's success, but that doesn't diminish their craftsmanship neither. I would say Winnie the Pooh and Wreck-It Ralph should somehow fit in there as well, Pooh being the Rescuer's Down Under of the era and Ralph being like Aladdin. This means that Disney's next feature may be 'The Lion King' everyone has been waiting for.

I still say this is the Disney Revival period. :argh:

so....Mon - $1.7m

Total - $298,420,339

Well....that was probably the best thing I'll see in theaters all of 2014.

Man, Wreck it Ralph needs a sequel

I loved WIR but I thought they wrapped the whole story up pretty neatly. I didn't see any loose ends or stories that needed to be continued.

The only reason I could see to do a sequel is to try and work in more video game cameos.

...it's only January, you know.

I do know that. However, looking at the lineup for the year, I'm not expecting to see one I'll like more. There's one with a possibility but I'm still expecting to end up liking this one more.

so you saw it and liked it??!! :woot:

Saw it and loved it.

awesome!! I knew you'd love it!!! :woot:

and I'd have to agree with you. Aside from Godzilla, based on this year's lineup, I don't think I will be seeing a film as enjoyable as Frozen this year.

I might check this out later this week. I hope I enjoy it as much as you guys. :woot:

I guess there's Big Hero 6 this Nov.

but, it's not a princess/fairy tale movie, so I don't find myself too excited/interested for that.........at least not yet.

although I do hear there's a blonde in it..........so.............
