speaking of Mulan, isn't she like the only Disney princess who's not a true princess, either by birth or marriage?
Yep, that's true. She was born into what is the ancient Chinese version of an upper middle-class family and she married a military officer. Nothing Princess about her.

Hellfire is the greatest Disney villain song ever, period. It's actually kind of creepy when you consider that the whole song is about this old man having a raging ***** for a women half his age.
I'd say that "half his age" is being more than a bit charitable to Frollo.

Pocahontas isn't really a "princess" either, though she's the daughter of the guy in charge, so it's sort of similar.

There was an old Nostalgia Chick video that divided the princesses into "born royalty" (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Jasmine, Pocahontas, now Merida, Elsa and Anna), "married royalty" (Cinderella, Belle, Tiana), and "hugged royalty" (Mulan).

True, but they never specified ages so I was taking a guess.

I'm so happy this and Catching Fire are kicking ass and taking names at the box office. They both deserve it, imo.

Very well said. Two great movies, both deserve the success and I am glad they are getting it.

Strong female leading films. Makes me so proud. :ww: And gives me hope that we'll get a Wonder Woman film someday.

Also I watched the film and loved it. 8/10 for me, I actually thought they could have done a closer adaptation and still have Anna and Elsa be sisters.

Elsa's perfect guy is Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians.

It would never work. He's DreamWorks, she's Disney. It's Romeo and Juliet all over again!

Although now I'm getting images of a West Side Story treatment, with Disney characters on Elsa's side and DreamWorks characters on Jack's side, all taking the Capulet and Montague roles... o_O

Save it for the Animation Shippers Section. :o

what I found interesting is that the king and queen in Frozen took pretty much the same approach as the Kents did in MOS.

That is, they operated on a basis of fear and isolation. Both Elsa and Clark are taught to hide their powers, conceal themselves, stay isolated from others and society ( although Elsa was more extreme in that sense ). And you got the sense that that burden weighed heavily on both characters as they grew up.

It isn't until both characters go up "north" where they can express themselves freely. Clark goes up to the Arctic, finds the "FOS," meets Jor-El. Jor-El tells Clark to "test his limits." And when Clark finally flies and soars through the skies, he feels free for the 1st time.

Likewise, Elsa goes up to the north mountains. There, she "tests her limits and breaks through" ( her lyrics in Let It Go ). She finally feels free and becomes "one with the wind and sky" ( just like Clark flying ). Elsa also builds her own FOS with her Ice Palace.

Yes, it is very refreshing. Both sailed past Harry Potter's previous Thanksgiving record and are overperforming against expectations. And not to name names, but after the disappointment of a certain Norse fellow earlier this month and many of his summertime contemporaries, it is refreshing that actual quality is doing even better.

wait......Frozen beat HP's Thanksgiving record?

which HP film was that?

oh, and as someone who saw both Frozen and Catching Fire essentially back-to-back, I can say I much, MUCH prefer Frozen........lol.

Both Catching Fire and Frozen did. It was the record set by the first one back in 2001, so the usual caveats about inflation (and, in Frozen's case, 3D) apply.

ah, thanks.

I just hope Frozen has a good BO run, domestically and internationally.

Some Oscars and Golden Globes would be nice, too. :word:

I still can't see why it was so hard for Disney to adapt this story, even now with the sister plot point added which should have made it much easier. I know I should just accept the film for what it is and it is a great film, but it is a little sad to see a fairy-tale favorite used simply to inspire what is now an original story that features trolls and a queen of snow. Simply had [BLACKOUT]the parents send Elsa away with someone to look after her and have Anna's memories of Elsa wiped by having her heart frozen by the Troll's Mirror. Have the Trolls be citizens of Arendalle who plot with Hans to take the kingdom back for the Trolls. Have Kirstoff be an orphan who's custody is given to his grandmother. Have Olaf be Elsa's only friend whom she has grown up with. Have a childhood lullaby Anna and Elsa knew as children be the key to unthawing Anna's heart and return the love she and her sister had for one another.[/BLACKOUT] These ideas are just some they could have added to the story.

Really loved this movie.

Anna really drives the plot. A true protagonist. She has flaws certainly but she carries the day with her own drive and assistance from her acquired allies.

Elsa embracing her power makes for some great visuals.

Comic relief was well placed to be humorous but not childish.

The film has just enough thematic edge to be a great introduction to deeper stories for youngsters.

I have heard a few comparisons to Brave but I find this one much better as far as those seeking well portrayed positive role models.

Happy to see the film doing so well. Box-office should be gangbusters all through early January.

Let it Go on repeat since Wednesday. It gets me SO pumped. I love how the 3 choruses build.

on google i saw the Tangled cameo. fake or real?

it's real, it seems.

I caught the cameo, but wasn't sure it was really Rapunzel.

but the Disney wiki mentions the cameo, so it must be true, right? :cwink:
