He also was a supporter of the animated short Paperman.

We wouldn't have even gotten Princess and the Frog or Winnie the Pooh if it wasn't for Lasseter. He's at least doing a hell of a lot more for 2D animation than any other animation studio. Winnie the Pooh won't be the last 2D feature from the Disney studio.

"Unfortunately 2D became the excuse for poor storytelling," said Lasseter, who pioneered the CGI animation revolution with Toy Story in 1995. "The general consensus was that audiences did not want to watch hand-drawn animated films, which is of course completely ridiculous. The day I stepped in we got in touch with these guys and set about bringing back the artists that Disney had laid off."

Paperman was CG.

BREAKING: Disney Just Gutted Their Hand-Drawn Animation Division
http://www.cartoonbrew.com/disney/b...heir-hand-drawn-animation-division-81043.html

UPDATE #4: In light of Disney’s dismantling of their hand-drawn animation division, this Animation Guild post from last October suggests that Disney execs, including Lasseter, had decided a while ago that hand-drawn animation was no longer a part of Disney’s gameplan. In the post, an anonymous staffer at Disney lodges the following complaint to union rep Steve Hulett:

We’re developing a bunch of different projects to show John Lasseter. It’s a complicated process. We pitch to a development group, they tell us which ones they like, then tell us that people who’re pitching need to develop three pitches for John, since he likes artists showing him three things.

And when we do pitch, it’s made clear to us that the stories aren’t necessarily for a hand-drawn project. When we’ve brought it up with John Lasseter, he’s shied away from commiting to a hand-drawn feature …

Isn't there a Phineas and Ferb film getting made? That'll likely be in 2D.

Studio Ghibli says hi

Which Disney (headed by Lasseter) distributes in North America.
That doesn't make him the guy that does more for animation in the whole world, expecially when there are so many animated studios in countries like Japan that offer well developed storylines and animation.

That's because the show's already in 2D. It's different for an original Disney movie to be in 2D these days.

I don't know. Hollywood does seem to live taking 2D characters and making them 3D.

That's true, but the show's so popular I can't see them dropping the art style it already has. It's like how I can't imagine the Spongebob Squarepants Movie 2 being anything but 2D when it comes out. I mean, I could imagine the movie would have 3D effects but the animation would be traditional 2D. But it could definitely happen since this is Disney's "thing" now.

Maybe it's more of a current toon thing. If the film is based on a current/recent show, it'll likely stay 2D. But, if it's something old, the chances increase of it being in 3D.

I should've been more clear. He does more in North America than any other American animation studio (ie Dreamworks etc)

That makes a lot of sense, man.

Is Walt Disney the star of the film?

so, I'm assuming this is real:

I guess those "leaked" images posted a few months ago weren't too far off the mark.

glad that Anna is still a blonde.

and is that a strand of white I see in her hair??

The little short film/trailer thing was really cute. This should be good. I love tangled

Lasseter has turned them down when they've been presented to him. He's only interested in CG films.

It's sad, since everyone thought he was the guy to bring the traditional 2D animation back to Disney.

I guess these were official not fan made, silly Disney trying to lie to the internet!

Here from the Walt Disney Animation website you can clearly see it's the same girl designs, especially the one in the reflection.

Yeah they recycled Rapunzel's design!

These designs look like they were done by Cal Arts graduates! Young artists right out of the Disney animation school designing characters from the Disney generic playbook starting with Wreck it Ralph and Paperman. You can see Cal Arts graduates generic designs in the early 80's films like the Black Cauldron, The Great Mouse Detective and Oliver and Company. It looks like we're back to that again! Since they fired the old timers, except for two Mark Henn and Eric Goldberg as creative consultants. There's nothing more generic than Mark Henn.

Are they supposed to be mother and daughter or something?

According to the Hans Christian Anderson story there's a boy and a girl and the boy gets kidnapped by the Snow Queen. So maybe the girl in white is the Snow Queen. But in this version they look to much alike not to be sisters, or related in some way. Or it could just be the generic Disney female character design where all the girls look alike.

they're sisters.

the girl with white hair is Elsa, the Snow Queen. she's the eldest sister.

Anna, the blonde, is her younger sister. she's the main protagonist of the film.

Here's ACTUAL footage from Frozen, taken from a Japanese show. I'll be honest..it looks very good. Very epic. Note: It's in Japanese:

So the Japanese gets this awesome teaser, and what do we get? A minute long carrot joke.
