Willem Dafoe stars in the real life story about the dog that led the 1925 serum run. The animated Balto was the same story, though with a different lead.

Goddamnit now I have to watch this.

I had only heard of Balto before this and so didn't known all the details of the story before. But yeah i am really looking foward to this. Its a great story and i love love dogs/wolfs. The environments in this look great and the music sounds great and its William Defo darn it.

Disney should've released this in theaters.

Call of the Wild would have made it redundant probably.

Why? So it can rack up a marketing bill and then underperform? Not to mention having to split its profit amongst theater chains.

Togo does look better suited for theaters than say Lady and the Tramp, which looks like cheap, low budget DTV fare. But Marvolo has a point. It probably wouldn't have done well with the cost of releasing a film like this in wide release.

In the 1990s, the movie probably would've been a moderate success. These days, it's just tough to get a mid-level movie like this out.

Based on the trailer, this might have been a hit with the right marketing.

I never bothered to check the details of the story, so I never knew there were others dogs involved outside of the ones with Balto.

Damn, this was a good film. Togo totally got the shaft in regards to recognition.
