Anything with Sam Rockwell is great hell, Frost/Nixon was perfect without him but PERFECT-ER with him!

It's a word. IT'S A WORD. :argh:

Yes.

Back on topic:

Anyone think Copleys acting is Oscar worthy?
I do. He did a really good job and his performance was very believable.

I hope this can get a best picture nomination if anything, to me its the best of the year so far.

It would truly be amazing, someone with like no acting school or really anything, going to to toe with some of the bigger names.

...And winning.

^I think considering it was his first performance, and some of the stuff he had to do for it, he is definately Oscar worthy, its as good a performance i've seen this year, especially considering its his first acting role.

Whether the Oscars see it that way is another matter.

Agreed. I mean, this just reminds me of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in Good Will Hunting.

yea i agree, but thing is D9 is a sci fi flick so, chances of it winning big award are kinda slim :csad:

You know? I personally go out of my way to kill any one who has seen Moon.

I am beyond jealous of any one who has seen it. I haven't yet.

District 9 is better than Star Trek for sure. Better than Watchmen and Basterds.

Personal opinion, of course.

Bring it on!

ST is still my favorite film this year. I liked it better than D9. It's great but I think people are making a little too much of a big deal about it.

One could apply that same logic to Star Trek. Despite the success critically and financially I'd say District 9 still isn't talked about as much as Star Trek was at the beginning of the summer.

agreed, im still in shock how this movie was only 30 mill, major props to Neill

I thought Star Trek was good, not great...this is one of my favorite films of all time, the best sci-fi film I've ever seen, and nothing this year comes remotely close.

agreed :up: i really did enjoy ST, imo D9 was just on a different level of awesomness. They used the f-boms soo much, it didn't bother me a bit, because it fitted so well with what was going on

Yep, same here, ST was good, very good in fact, but District 9 was not only something different but it was just amazing film-making.

Just saw the film this week and was blown away. I managed to avoid spoilers, and only watched one trailer, once. So I was pleasantly surprised. Really original, with the aliens not being your stock otherworld invaders. The humans were very much like Nazi's, though the film was reflecting Apartheid. Refreshing to have a 'protagonist' who isn't very likable until the last moments. (When he ran away whilst wearing the power armour, I was pissed!) and it doesn't seem like the good guys will win.
Ending totally cries for a sequel, and so do we!

I feel the same as most people here. I loved Star Trek and cant wait for part 2 but District 9 was just a better film. It had the whole package imo...drama, action, laughs, etc.

Well so did Star Trek but I think it worked better in D9.

The only thing about Star Trek that put me off, though not in a considerable way, was the many plot conveniences. Was still a great film though, definitely one of the years best, and I'm not even a Trekkie.

It's a great film but the best sci fi film ever? I don't think so. I think it had a great message with great underlying themes but Star Trek clicked with me more. I was just glad to see a more optimistic sci fi film or an optimistic film in general. Everything just came togehter perfeclty for me.

My thoughts exactly.

Both are two of the best movies this year. Star trek does have some conveniences in the plot though but wasn't depressing .

FYI, October's edition of Cinefex will feature District 9.
