OK, I don't know ANYTHING about Devil May Cry, but what is the difference between this Dante and the old?
The only differences I can see are slightly modified clothes, skinnier frame, and the hair. Unless these are the changes you are complaining about, I'm missing the big picture...
It's not so much of the aesthetic that bugs me about the new game. I hate the look of the new "Dante" but I can get over that sort of thing. What has me worried is the fact that they changed things to appeal to an American audience, which to me, takes away from Devil May Cry's charm.
A huge part of the fun of the original DMC games is that they are ridiculously over the top, even by Japanese standards. It's one of those things where the dialogue is so bad it's good. The character do weird little dances, they speak in long drawn-out unnecessary monologues, ridiculous plot twists, giant monsters with sophisticated accents, and ear-shredding heavy metal music. Dante has a fun devil may care attitude even when he's facing great odds and almost certain death. He is never grim, gritty, or edgy in a serious way.
Stuff like that is what separated DMC from other titles and made them fun.
So my fear with this new game is that they're just going to toss all of that out the window in an attempt to Westernize the title. The look itself isn't a deal breaker for me, but it's a very bad sign that they're looking to change DMC to appeal to a wider audience. And for some reason the answer to that is always, “Let’s make the main character more emo!”
I could be wrong. The changes could be aesthetic only and the game could still turn out awesome and feel like a DMC game. We'll just have to wait. For me, anticipating this game is like waiting for my mom to make one of my favorite meals, but instead of getting the ingredients from the same store she's always shopped at, she went to the new fancy store that only sells organic products. Something in the kitchen just doesn't smell right to me.
