DmC: Devil May Cry

They didn't simply change the fiction from top to bottom. They took the known fiction and decided to piss all over it. They could have went in a different direction without cherry picking and playing with the known material.

Lets have Dante, Vergil, Rebellion, Yamato, Sparda, Mundus, etc. but lets just completely go against everything they stood for in the past. That is what gets me. If you want to start over with Dante, start over with Dante. But to include everything else in such a twisted way is grating to say the least.

Alright, I'm trying to get back into Devil May Cry now. Luckily I had enough funds in my account left and just bought the HD collection. 11GB... oh boy. And I'm going to try the DMC demo as well.

According to Sessler Dante is unbearable, the writing and story are downright horrible, and the more the game goes on the more tedious and and not fun the combat becomes. Great.

Thats a bummer to hear, but at the same time, lets be honest. The past DMC games were not beautifully written masterpieces. They were cheesy, paper thin and all over the place. We're basically just trading bad writing for bad writing.

Dante was always a fun character though. This one tries to be that edgy teenager who overuses foul language to convince you this is cool . Comes off more trashy then cool and fun. This game does have a dirty feel to it which is what I think they were going for.

One thing Ive noticed is the lack of choreographed fight scenes. I loved all the cut scenes like Lady Vs Dante, Dante Vs Vergil and Dante Vs Nero. All that seems to be gone which Im gonna miss.

All I'm looking for in a Devil May Cry game is good gameplay and fun anyway. Doesn't mean I don't care for story at all, it's one of the reasons I hate DMC2. As thin as the stories were in DMC1, 3 and 4, at least there was something tangible, that tried to hold it all together and gave you a reason to fight. I can't even remember if DMC2 had enough dialogue to fill one sheet of paper. Anyway, I obviously haven't played DMC yet, so I can't judge, but I would say a story that tries to be good and fails is worse, than a story that doesn't aim to be good in the first place.

What's the most important thing for me though, I need to care about the character I'm playing. Dante wasn't deep or anything, but he always had a one liner ready, had a cocky attitude, was cheesy at times, and in DMC1 had some class to him. He was simply fun. And as we've established, it's 1 of 2 things I'm looking for in a DMC game. New Dante doesn't seem fun to me. More irritating if anything, with the whole rebellious punk attitude.

Not really since a lot of people find DMC offensive on its own merits. The fans complaining aren't simply complaining because they preferred the old one (though undoubtedly some are). They changed the entire tone and style of DMC and its story. Not to mention that some of the gameplay choices aren't what some fans were hoping for either.

Yeah, Dante looks and acts like gutter trash here. They stripped him of his class. Being vulgar doesnt always equal cool. I havnt minded when hes more held back here but it is tough bringing myself to like this new version. Alot of what worked for the character is missing.

Does reboot mean there should be very little that resembles the previous iteration? Like I said, some fans undoubtedly do ask for the same thing over and over, but that's not what a lot of people are saying here. They're taking issue with Ninja Theory's own version. Both on its own merits and how it relates to the old version. Painting it as just a bunch of fans upset its not the exact same doesn't really dismiss the criticisms people have brought up with this new DMC.

Well as I said they were planning to do a 5th of the old series. but they changed their minds during that process and they also stated that old Dante's personality is akin to Bruce Campbell's Ash of evil dead and army of darkness which is still cool. but with this reboot they wanted to take slightly different approach. but some of that personalty of the old one is still there. well according to what producer from Capcom /DMC told them in the vic's basment pod cast.

What is the point of calling the game DMC if you are going to lose the entire point of the series?

Also when you change things, it is usually nice when those changes are an improvement.

well remember Def one of the representatives from Capcpm did say not to consider the old series dead or abandoned . it's possible that Capcom will do to Devil may cry what it did with mega men . so we may still get to original series finish up. . It's obvious that with this reboot they had another audience in mind for it. And the only improvement was a better focus story story. And they took the campy(as the makers claim it was) fun that i and older fans liked made this more sardonic. they will have to head back to the old series as they said at some time .

I remember some time ago some people picking on Spider-Aziz for reviewing a game by watching it on Youtube and now you're doing just the same?

Man, I can't believe they turned Mundus into a glorified cutscene for most of the fight. And when you actually fight him, it's so unimaginative. The majority of the fight, he acts like Yellow Jacket in MUA2, but with the occasional projectile thrown in. Man, just imagine the same fight, but in Platinum Games' hands.

Thats wrong as well as I said in my other post. Doesnt mean theres not room for improvement or that its flawless in rebooting its character decisions. Im saying both extremes on either side have a bit of flawed judgement in the way some are looking at it. Im not talking about anyone on these boards opinions. I really think the gameplay here is awesome, aside from a few things I really cant see any DMC fan not enjoying it.
