So this is something that has bounced around in my head for a while, and I felt like opening it to all of the 'Hype'-people here.

I'm sure we've all heard the saying "Clothes make the man/ woman", but I've always wondered if the clothing itself can make one appear to be something they're not. I mean, of course if you see a man or a woman walking down the street in a business suit, you're going to think they're more of a successful person than someone walking in torn, raggedy clothing. But what if they switched clothes. I've always wondered if clothing can also be deceiving. I mean, if a female supermodel had on a lot of baggy clothing, that looks old and worn, does she suddenly appear to be not as attractive as an average female who is wearing tight clothing and make-up?

Basically, what I'm asking is what effect do clothing and style have on how you look and perceive others in terms of looks, personality, etc? Does it matter what someone is wearing, or are there more factors that are involved.

Personally, I've come across plenty of women that I would see at some angle and think that they are attractive, until I see their face and their either really old, or not how I pictured them to be. Because of that, I've come to believe that there are certain clothes and styles that make one look better than they normally do, and in some ways, can cause others to look at them in a certain way.

No, a spermatozoa and an ovum make a fetus that will (barring incident) become a man or a woman.

Also, clothes and style are nice, but if you're **** underneath, you're just **** dressed up.

Hell Yeah! Shirt tucked into jorts, socks with mandals!! Can't go wrong.

Clothes can make a massive difference. It's basically optical illusions coming into play. They can make you look taller, slimmer, bring out the colour of your hair or eyes... but clothes can make you look worse as well.

Women have known this for years.

If you are asking about judging a person in their entirety, then of course there are many other factors involved outside of their fashion. Looks are nice, as well as the way someone carries themselves but, at the end of the day, all the pretty gloss and shiny veneer isn't going to matter if they can't carry a conversation, express themselves, or show a winning personality.

Back to the more superficial side of things, clothes can make (or break) a person's appearance. Style can be a very attractive quality to an individual.....or it can get you featured on the People of Wal-Mart website...

I've never heard that saying.

But I agree with Agent Z. Clothing is a huge factor that effects a person's appearance. I know that clothing style can totally break my attraction for an otherwise attractive female. I also know that good style can make a not as attractive female very attractive to me.

When I was a young kid, my mom always used to tell me "If a girl isn't going to be interested in you because of your clothes, she's not worth your time", but I can't even begin to explain how much of a load of crap that is. Clothing and style is a huge part of what attracts me to a young woman, and I wouldn't expect any less in reverse. I'm not saying that I'm Mr. Fashion and Style, but I do like to make myself look good. I'd like to think that I am mostly successful with it. I do get many compliments from young ladies about my appearance, so I'd like to think that I'm doing something right.

Own a suit for weddings, funerals and job interviews.

Have something to go out on dates, parties, that isn't a pair of jeans and a comics t-shirt.

People judge you on your appearance so I would conclude with an affirmative.

It definitely matters what a person wears. Somebody can come in here and pretend to be all moral and righteous with saying stuff like "I only care about what's on the inside" or "I'm not materialistic at all," but when someone looks at another person, they are already judging them according to what they are wearing. It's an unconscious thought process, really.

Besides...a fine woman wearing some tight low-cut jeans is alot better than one with some nasty, faded blue jeans with holes all in it. You know what I mean?

:o

Your style of clothing is a reflection of yourself. It's a way to have fun, but your appearance is also your first impression to strangers. I think that it is wise to be mindful of how you present yourself.

Also, knowing what clothes suit you the best can truly change the way you look. No one is perfect, but by wearing the proper size and cut of clothing, you can make the most of what you have naturally.

Agreeing on the suit. Make sure it's classic and not something from a fad.

But I love guys in jeans and comic t-shirts :csad:

I'm a total jeans, T-Shirt, and or shorts guy. I don't like dressing up, or even shaving. I'm not totally slack, for example, I work out constantly, but I don't think much about my appearance as far as grooming or clothes go. I dress nicely for work, that's it.

Personally, I like wearing suits and being clean shaven. I like how I feel and look when I wear them, even though I hate wearing dress shoes.

But at the same time, I find it hard to wear just jeans and a T-shirt. Its more comfortable, but for some reason, I need to wear something like a sweater, a vest, or a button down or something. I always started wearing cargo pants for the first time this week, and I really like it.

I also had to give up some of my clothes recently because for some reason I used to buy clothes that were L or XL. But now, I'm buying Medium sizes and it fits much better.

That's pretty much all I wear.

"Do Clothes Really Make the Man/Woman?"

No. No offense, but what a load of superficial hogwash. Obviously clothes are important to an extent (wear a suit to a job interview, don't look like a scrub if you're going on a date), but at the end of the day, the man makes the man and the woman makes the woman. If you're worried too much about your clothes, you come off as vain and insecure.

And for God sake's never pop your collar.

No, clothes certainly don't "make" you. A nice/expensive shirt won't mask the fact that you are a jerk and/or stupid for very long. The opposite is true as well. Case in point: Stephen King. The guy is a multi-millionaire by being one of the most successful authors in history. 9 times out of 10, he's in a BoSox T-shirt and jeans.

That being said, I would never say that clothes are completely unimportant. If you wear things that don't fit well, aren't age-appropriate, are dirty or old, it makes an impression on people that you lack social/personal skills. Of course, you can prove them wrong, but you have decided to take a minor step back before stepping forward.

The only course of action there is to prove them wrong with a swift bite into their jugular.

Girls in leggings forever and ever amen.

Hell yeah, my girlfriend has been wearing them, along with jeggins alot. Sporadic ***** rate has increased exponentially.

Certainly the clothes you wear help make (or break) the first impression people get of you.

Dress for the role you want to have in life.

In a job interview, wear the best clothing you have that is appropiate for the job you want. (Don't wear dress shoes to work as a sawyer in a lumber mill and don't wear work boots to work as clerk in an office).

Even the colour of the clothing can have an impression on people. Studies have been done, taking people of similar appearance wearing almost identical outfits, except 1 in Navy blue and 1 in some other colour and sending them on Job interviews. Navy blue almost always made a better impression on the interviewer.

In the end though, your attitude and your education are far more important than your clothes. Your clothes may get you in the door, the other two help you stay.

Is it just me, or does it seem like people are suddenly more attractive once the summer weather starts to hit? It's almost like the clothing (or lack thereof) catches my eyes more than they do when the weather is much colder. I remember one of my friends telling me once that it's like all the hot people disappear after the summer end.

Models wear baggy clothing all the time. Actually, if you see most models off the runway, alot of them dress like hobos lol

It's a mixed bag. Yes, you'll get to see more bikinis, but you also have to endure skinny guys jogging in nothing but tiny shorts and the local sots showing off their hairy beer guts.

It's the man or woman that makes the clothes.
