Do You Believe In Evolution?

Fairness almost has nothing to do with it. We live in a sinful, fallen world, where fairness and justice are rarely seen in their purest form. That will change when God sets things right, but until then it's still suffering from human disobedience.

So - God KNEW (being omnipotent and all) that Adam and Eve would disobey him, KNEW what horrible things would result from it, yet did nothing. Oh - and he says he's going to "make everything better" at some time or another; basically - having let everything come to pass - dangles this "salvation" in front of us like a twinkie at the end of a stick just barely out of reach...

...and you worship this guy?

Um - okay...

Then I don't think you or any Christian for that mater has any right to call God just or fair. I cannot fathom the concept of punishing an innocent newborn child for the sins of his oldest possible ancestor. If that's the case, than perhaps you should be punished for things that your great-grandparents did.

yeah there are definately some god fearing people on here, how can someone soooo loving be so horrible? your contradicting god's teachings left and right with that.

I suggest many people go see the movie Saved!, hopefully it enlightens you.

I can't believe Wilhelm got banned for this guy.

The Bible contradicts itself. Now Moviefan has said that since carbon dating has shown self-contradicting, that the whole thing is unreliable. Yet, he gives the bible a free pass. And yes, how can a God be all loving and yet condemn an innocent child to a life of nothing but hardships?

I did address that issue; go back a few pages and you'll find it. I referenced the various Hebrew words and their meanings in such a context.
You spelled out that the proper translation should be, "Thou shalt not murder." And somehow this excludes killing under the direction of God. It that about right?

see i never understand Christians who are god fearing, and almost every aspect they treat him as is one of harsh reality, extreme judgmental behavior, and the savior who commands that they grovel at his feet. The person they describe is a tyrant who likes to play with his creation, not the knowing and loving all knowing being that the bible typically talks about.

I don't understand how someone can go from "God's telling us to not murder (kill other humans)" to "God doesn't want us to murder unless, of course, he wants the person to die."

I believe in Evolution, but not that we came from monkeys. I believe both species broke off of something entirely different long before they reached what we know them to be today. I believe in God and I believe he created things knowing how they would turn out. If the big bang happened, I'm guessing God made it happen knowing that we would come out of it. I believe in a harmony of science and religion because a lot of science alone is like fiction and religion alone is like dogma.

Why is it so hard for some people to understand that?

Murder is the premeditated taking of another human life for unjust reasons. If you're a soldier fighting in a just war, then I highly doubt God would see any enemy death you might cause as murder. On the other hand, if you kill someone out of greed or hatred, God would definitely call that murder.

God doesn't wish for anyone to die vengefully or mercilessly, but He also gave us the freedom to choose...and if we exercise it, there are penalties.

Dear humans,

You can do anything you want, but if I don't like it, you burn forever.

Yours for Eternity,

God.

P.S. I love you.

"Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!"

Just to clarify, I'm not against religion. I'm Catholic but not very religious. I just can't pass an opportunity to quote George Carlin.

I had mentioned how the bible contradicts itself in response to Moviefans reason fro disbelieving carbon dating. He asked for examples and I sited the Ten Commandments vs. the Book of Leviticus. The commandments said, "Don't kill," while Leviticus says, "Kill them if they do _____."

me and my friends were kind of talking about evolution after getting blazed earlier today. not directly about evolution, but i was telling him how there's new telescopes being developed that will allow us to peer into whole other galaxies. scientists believe that this will allow them to find other earth-like planets, so i said, imagine if we did find them, and they were like earth but a million or however many years ago. like a planet that's just all plants and animals, or a planet with huge dinosaur like animals, just like our earth but in different stages. that would be crazy awesome. of course it wouldn't be long before we colonized those planets and ruined them by turning them into tourist attractions or something...

No, it isn't. It has nothing to do with evolutionary theory. It is a separate that explains the beginning of the universe. Evolution had to wait until life had begun before it had something with which to work.

Where do you get your knowledge of science? Post a link for this.

You know this kind of illustrates a common theme I've been noticing with a few people in this thread who don't believe in evolution. There seems to be at the best a great deal of ignorance as to what it is and at the worst a huge amount of the straw man fallacy going on. It really makes me wonder what the results of a study done on actual knowledge of what evolution is would show.

I think the most intriguing thing would be to see what type of life developed elsewhere. Not only how it changed over time, but its composition as well.

It would be incredible if life elsewhere was based on an element other than carbon, for instance.

I doubt we'd see any complex organisms that exists here, but if we did, then that would throw our perception of evolution in a whole new direction, to be sure.

I'm very interested in this
