I like the crossguard, but I feel like a simple fix like this:

crossguardsaber_zps3f4fdddc.jpg

would keep the aesthetic while being more obviously functional without all these excuses.

And the only viable reason to spin in a swordfight is if you're trying to die.

i love this edit! you can also have it so the hilts are vatical with the blade, so it looks like a regular saber, with a push of a button the hilts fold down, showing the picture above.

excellent photo shop

Then every Jedi and Sith in the PT was trying to get killed, I guess.

I like your manip. Solves plenty of problems, even if they are minor ones in the great scheme of it all.

It also reminds me that we have yet to have any point in a live action SW movie where they just explain what the hell the Sith are. I know it's probably explained out the butthole in the EU but that ain't good enough. Obi-Wan in ANH explained what they Jedi are in about 2 minutes. Would it kill them to give their antagonists the same level of respect from an audience POV.

lol citing anything from the PT is silly. The fighting was over the top and flashy and absolutely impractical. Of course it looked awesome sometimes, but it made no sense. Especially with a sword that could scorch you with a touch

^I don't disagree. In fact here's a fun game you can play. Whenever two people are lightsaber battling in the PT just focus on one of them through the battle. It becomes so painfully obvious how choreographed they are. It's more like they are dancing and just following some predetermined steps. This is at it's worst in the 3-way Darth Maul fight in TPM. Obi-Wan looks so silly twirling to meet his marks in that fight.

Yea totally. Thats a big reason why the obi-wan v vader fight in episode 3 is by far the best fight in the PT. aside from a few silly moments like when they both just swing their sabers around in circles, it was pretty brutal and really felt like they were trying to kill eachother. such a shame that it took 3 films of build up for a good battle

Yeah, pretty much.

It's not my manip. I found it online. I'm not able to photochop stuff that goodlike.

The Sith are just evil force users, the dark side's equivalent of the Jedi.

Funny how everyone is complaining about characters spinning in the PT, ignoring that Alec Guinness did a twirl in his fight.

That must make Star Wars crap too.

Then again he was trying to commit suicide in that fight, so there you go.

Spinning is a valid strategy if you become more powerful than you can possibly imagine after you get dead.

That spin is so out of place. What's worse is that the shot before that shows Vader jabbing his lightsaber at Obi-Wan. He would have been dead. :funny:

Regardless if the sides turn out to be handguards, mini blades, vents or just for looks...

It LOOKS badass and if that's the only reason this dark Jedi is using it than I am still sold. hehe

When Sir Alec Guinness did it, it was magnificent.

You shut up! :argh: :o

I wouldn't even call that a spin from what Guiness Obi Wan was trying to do.

It was an old man doing some kinda stutter step line dance in slo mo. Lol

With the exception of the Obi-Wan spin... am I seriously the only one that still loves that fight?

 This is Star Wars a fictional universe, the fighting doesn't have to be practical, also this is a movie where people want flashy because it's more exciting to watch. Where the hell did all this practical crap come from in relations to Star Wars.

When stuff like this happened, it wasn't the least bit exciting. It was just flat out dumb.

Watching it on repeat like that it looks stupid. But watching it for the first time that whole building up momentum for the strike was exciting. Obi-Wan and Anakin were trying to kill each other, that was one of the very few time Kenobi was forceful in the fight.

I actually maintain the best fight in the series in regards to being fast-paced, but light on the more extravagant choreography is the Anakin/Dooku duel in Revenge of the Sith.

Can't vote, need a 3rd choice. Love the blowtorch/fiery-ish blade, not sold on the crossguard.

Don't care for practicality much, but I do hope Colbert's explanation/speculation pans out.

Helps that I read the rumour that [blackout]Driver builds it on his own and unready, hence its clunkiness.[/blackout]

I do love that little one. That scene above though is so very, very dumb.

Yes that particular bit but the fights from the prequels were amazing and took light saver combat to new heights. Some YouTube videos from fans have some awesome choreography and I am sure whoever is doing this new films combat will implement great fight scenes.
