Superman Returns Do you want a sequel, or start over from scratch?

Personally, I want to just do a reboot.

Pretend Superman Returns never happened the same way Superman Returns pretended parts 3 and 4 never happened.

No kid. New Cast (mabye). New Director (definetely). New story (definetely again).

This should be in the sequel forum but yes I want a restart or something like another vague sequel that ignores stuff from Returns.

What I think they could do though for my little friend, Jason is have a TV series about the son of superman, called THE SON OF SUPERMAN, starring Tristan. It'd basically be in the same track as batman beyond while the movies go in a different direction. I don't think that'd be too complicated.

I'd like a reboot. I really think thats what this franchise needs. Can it ever top the original? Probably not, but thats why it has to go in a different direction. Kids need a Superman for their generation.

I hated the "spinning-the-world-backward-to-reverse-time" power, but now, I do wish that current Superman can use that power to reverse time so that the events on SR never existed, or, better yet, the movie itself never existed!

So yes, I'm with you on this one. Start over from scratch. No need a complete detail origin, just starts with Clark's first time in Metropolis, and debuts as Superman (a la Lois & Clark's pilot if you will). Keep the current cast (I'm okay with them), but just change their characterisations a bit, and fire the current writers/director. Brandon Routh is okay as a new young Superman who debuts as Superman. But I don't think he is appropriate for the continuation of Christopher Reeve's Superman, because Routh's supposed to be 5 years older, yet, he looked young, like a fresh college graduate. No suspensions of disbelief (like what Singer asked from us, heck, I think he is the ONLY director of a science fiction movie who begged from us to suspend our disbelieve) could hide the fact that he still looks younger.

So yes, a reboot. :supes:

Gimme a sequel. I loved SR and think it was a great way the recharge the series. It was able to give me everything I loved about the first two films and still throw in something new.

LOL@this idea! Seriously, it could be great. A TV series a la Birds of Prey (where Batman runs away and leave Gotham, a very OOC for Batman, but still quite enjoyable for a TV series). They can have Superman runs away yet again (sure, OOC for Supes, but heck, even in SR, he acts OOC anyway), and this time for good. Or, they could just ignore SR where Superman returns, but instead, make Superman actually died during his trip to Krypton. The series could focus on the Kid growing up, and slowly discovers his power. Sure, sounds like Smallville, but this time, they could appropriately titled the series as METROPOLIS: THE SON OF SUPERMAN! :woot:

We need a completely new adventure with, possibly, the same cast (minus Bosworth of course). However, the story must ignore the Jason debacle and actually make it action packed, tactfully humorous and fun.
In short, pretty much a film that ignores SR.

I think begins is overrated but I do look back now having seen returns and like how it distances itself as much as possible from previous incarnations to develop its own identity. I can respect that about it. Nolan didn't hide in Burton's shadow while basically copying what he did. He let the past be the past and set his sights on the future, respecting batman's roots but not wasting all the evolution the bat has undergone... and now he's free to go wherever he wants to go in his world, with his own toys. I want that same thing for Superman.

i say, do a sequel to SR, then do a prequel, which would act as a reboot, then finish off the franchise with a movie that will wrap up, and tie all four movies together.

personally i want a reboot.

realistically, we're gonna pick-up where SR left off, with or without Singer. look at The Incredible Hulk, that sequel took years to get greenlit but despite the new director they're gonna pickup up where the first one left off, albeit some drastic changes (less drama, more action). even Bana's name is still being linked to the sequel, he aint confirming his involvement, but he aint denying it either. Routh has all but confirmed that he will be Superman once the sequel is greenlit.

A non related Donner Re-Boot for me. After witnessing Singer's use/definition for "vague history" a sequel would be messy.

Seconded. Trying to pick up from twenty-five years ago is not the way to go.

I also want Warner's to stop going over to Bluetights.net. Almost everyone there loves this flawed thing, and if they go there, they will think everyone wants Singer. Warner's, you want to be lied to, go to bluetights.net. You want the truth, come here.

Sequel with Singer and the whole cast of SR back.

REBOOT! Forget SR ever existed!

V for Vendetta Director helming the reboot. :)

Villain Lineup
Brainiac & Metallo
Darkseid
Lex (Evil Genius/Politician) & Brainiac
Metallo & Lex
Bizarro & Lez

Parasite & Lex
Parasite & Brainiac

I'm obviously in the minority here. I had to post, I can't stand the overwhemingly hostile posts I keep reading here.....

I LOVED Returns. One of my top 5 favorite comicbook based movies...I also thought Routh and Ottman's score was TERRIFIC. I thought Singer created a great story, as I loved the love triangle and Jason aspects of the story...

Did any of you "diehard" comicbook fans here/read about Burton's/Smith's ideas for Superman? They were BRUTAL. I'm GRATEFUL Singer did the movie, and I hope Warner Brothers has a HALF of BRAIN and signs him up ASAP.

If I have to wait another 10-15 years for a Superman movie, I'll die.....

No matter what Singer did, he couldn't win. The money already lost BEFORE even filming returns was astronomical (in the millions). If he went away from Donner and Reeves "Superman" he would have been KILLED. So what if he incorporated a lot of Donner's work in the movie.... IT WAS nearly 20 years (longer since Superman I)! If he did a Burton type of movie (Superman needs a suit, can't fly, half robot, etc.) the movie wouldn't have even made $20 million!

I know the DVD sales are going to be very good, and I can't for the life of me believe that more people want to watch some crappy Pirates movie over Superman (I hated the first POTC).

Bottom line, Singer re-signs, we get a new bad guy (Darksied, Metallo) combined with Lex+Zod (trying to off Jason), combined with the original aspects created for Returns (love triangle and Jason), Superman Returns II would be a big hit.....

The only problem with a reboot is, if they do one,it may take 10 yrs or longer before it happens....

I would love a reboot but that is completely unrealistic at this point. WB had their chance to do that and blew it.

The next best thing to do is for the sequel to not refer to the previous movie and have life in Metropolis back to normal...except that both Richard and Jason still exist (Damn you Singer) but I wouldn't show the kid, maybe a quick mention by Lois that she has to pick him up from school.

Since the love story is screwed up at this point between Lois and Superman. I would introduce the beginnings of a love triangle between Lois, Richard, and Clark.

As Lois prepares to marry Richard, she realizes that she has feelings for Clark, and has for quite sometime, but her preoccupation with Superman always overshadowed them. With her feelings for Superman finally resolved, she finds her feels for Clark go pretty deep and she allows herself, apprehensively to look at Clark in that way.

However this is just a method to deal with the presence of Richard and only a minor sub-plot in the movie.

The major story should be the arrival of Brainac and its alliance to Luthor.

If WB brings back Singer, and he goes with Zod as the villian, that will be the deathblow to this series and we won't see another Superman film for at least 8 to 10 years.

scrap it all and start over with something that recognizes the character has changed since 1977.

Get a director who takes the respectful Nolan approach, and get a writing team that can craft a story where you actually empathize with the characters and dont cringe at the dialogue. Getting lead actors who have chemistry with one another would probably be a good idea too.

Bluetights.net started out well, but then lost any objectivity it had when it buddied up with Singer to get his production blogs. Now you cant so much as post a negative opinion on any aspect of the film without getting attacked by the posters there, and then banned by their moderators.

I think it's obivous to WB their not getting objective feedback on the film there from their 2000 or so users
