Doc Savage in the DCU!

Hey, I am aware that this may not go here but I was watching Casinoe Royale earlier and does anyone else think Daniel Craig would fit as Doc Savage?

Well ya i'm aware he is around only 5'10" tall but they can make it appear as though he is taller. Look at Michael Keaton in Batman 89, Jack Nicholson towered over him but they made it work.

Doc is described as between 6'4" and 6'6".....he is very muscular and people are in awe of him when they see him. Craig is a good actor and a good Bond....but I just can't see him as Doc.

Yes and no. He is described like I said as a large very muscular guy....but they also talk about him looking like an ancient carved statue. The way most wrestlers are over pumped up, they don't remind of that.

Doc is also a genius...as at home in a tuxedo as a safari outfit....is fluent in multiple languages.....not quite so sure how well most wrestlers can pull off sophisticated intelligenge.

The casting of Doc will not be easy.

I was being sarcastic. The answer to "cast a wrestler?" should always be no.

Theres no one in Hollywood that fits the description of Doc to a "T" and if they are gonna cut a corner, it has to be with the size of the person. Daniel Craig, for one (not the only), is in great shape, great acting talent, and more than enough screen presence and charisma to make it all work on the big screen. You are definitely going to need a performer similar to Daniel Craig (not that hes the best or only choice, just in that wheelhouse)

I read the Batman Doc Savage Special today and it knocked me off my feet. There is not enough room on the page for these two characters. Truly. Doc Savage blows Superman out of the water when it comes to Bat-Team-Ups. I wish they could get this guy for Brave and the Bold cartoon.

No such luck, Source crew. In fact, we’ve got two new ongoing books to unveil, both hitting in April.
You’re all familiar with FIRST WAVE, right? The pulp-y, neo-noir epic from writer Brian Azzarello and artist Rags Morales hits in March and brings readers into a world where the Batman, Doc Savage, the Spirit and many more hard-boiled heroes stand side by side.
To further flesh out the FIRST WAVE world and give some of these iconic characters some much-needed face time, we’re launching two new ongoing series: THE SPIRIT and DOC SAVAGE.

DOC SAVAGE #1 kicks off the Man of Bronze’s very own ongoing, as Doc Savage finds himself the target of a brazen attack on New York City. And things get worse as tragedy befalls one of Doc’s allies, and it’s starting to look like someone may not survive the opening pages of “The Lord of Lightning” arc. Featuring a story from Paul Malmont, the national bestselling author of THE CHINATOWN DEATH-CLOUD PERIL, with art by Howard Porter, with covers by superstar artists J.G. Jones and John Cassaday.
That’s not all, though. the DOC SAVAGE series will also sport a JUSTICE INC. co-feature, courtesy of crime novelist Jason Starr (Vertigo Crime’s THE CHILL) and artist Scott Hampton. The first installments finds our star, Richard Benson, the Avenger, chasing down the criminals that have abducted one of his own detectives, sending Benson into an heated, unforgiving rage.

THE SPIRIT, written by Mark Schultz (Superman: Man of Steel, Xenozoic Tales) with art by DC newcomer Moritat and a snazzy cover by LADRÖNN, puts the spotlight back on Will Eisner’s fedora-wearing vigilante. What happens when the international crime syndicate known as The Golden Tree decides to help the villainous Octopus consolidate control over Central City’s criminal underworld? Well, it’s safe to say this is the kind of thing the Spirit handles best, even if The Golden Tree has offered up one of their deadliest – and sexiest — assassins to take down the Spirit.

Those did catch my attention in the solicitions, but I have to say I'm unfamiliar with writers for both series. I assume that the Doc Savage writer has some creditability since he penned some novels with the character? Not sure on The Spirit writer at all, but that co-feature sounds pretty appealing.

GREAT NEWS!!

I just finished reading The Chinatown Death Cloud Peril a few days ago. It was outstanding. It's about Walter Gibson(Creator of the Shadow) and Lester Dent(Creator of Doc Savage) and how they uncover a political conspiracy which would destroy a great chunk of New York City. Pulp fun set in the real world. Fantastic stuff. So i'll definitely be buying the Doc Savage book. Jason Starr is really good too. The Chill was a fun read.

Never heard of Marc Schultz. Is he any good? I'll be buying the first issue regardless for the Spirit Black & White story because im a sucker for Sienkiewicz artwork.

Looks like First Wave, and these two titles will be the only DC books I'm gonna be buying. I just hope the quality stays consistent, unlike the first Spirit book, which got steadily worse after Cooke left.
