Why don't American hospitals have security?

My hospital (I don't work at JH, but it is still close to us) was in an uproar today because of this situation. Absolutely horrible...really emphasizes the risks involved in healthcare. A lot of people don't realize how much patients are the ones abusing their caregivers, and then something extreme like this occurs.

I felt so bad for the patients on lockdown all day. Any new patients who had just arrived must have been terrified...their family members weren't allowed in to be with them and were also freaking out.

Why don't American hospitals have security?

They do , but they're rent-a-cops. Some , I imagine , would be off duty cops who moonlight as security guards , but most of them are average joes that aren't armed with more than pepper spray and a walkie talkie.
