Also, someone mentioned music he listens to, I never had heard of half of the songs they use in these films until they played in them, and I actually got the same coat he has at Urban Outfitters

Peter clearly went down one route to solve the problem and was so intent on solving the problem he was oblivious to the simplier more obvious solution. What's the big deal?
