Does the music of this decade suck?

the nineties were better in pretty much every genre- metal /grunge, dance etc.
massive attack- wow
the verve hell even bubblegum pop was alright because it KNEW it was cheesy unlike boybands this decade who think they are rock:cmad:
i like snow patrol though, i think they have been the highlight of this decade. i enjoyed this decade until 2003 after that it went downhill

I think that we're just getting old. I remember that the same criticisms were made about the nineties by fans of the seventies and eighties. They said that Pearl Jam, STP, Stonegarden all sounded the same and that pop music wasn't as great as it was in the days of Madonna, Michael Jackson and the rest. And Rap wasn't as great as Motown. And now you can hear Red Hot Chili Peppers at Wal-Mart. :sigh:

a

and what did you think?

They where great. There wasn't much interaction with the crowd. I don't think Flowers is that comfortable on stage yet. He didn't know what to say between songs and he said himself that he didn't know what to talk about.

Quite a mixture of people there as well. There where familys, coulples, teenages, scenester, punks, dad rock men.

Thats the thing with most of the people who I think are saying that all the music nowhere days is rubbish. I think its just that they grew up/ where in school/perhaps more happy in the 90's so they associate the music of that decade. Same as how you always here some old person say all music these days is rubbish they can't relate to it.

Every decade has its own style, and every style has its good artists and bad artists. Of course, not every style of music suits everybody, and it's not always the best musicians who make it big. I hate 80s music, but even the 80s had its bright spots -like David Bowie.

Making it big in the music industry has as much to do with getting a good agent, lots of promotion and landing a contract with a major recording studio, as it has to do with talent. A lot of the trouble with today's artists is that the major studios are as concerned about a pretty face as they are about whether the person can actually sing or not.

:wow: :wow: :wow: :woot: :whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

Its not that. Maybe that is part of it, but the music of this decade is definately of lower quality.

Look at it this way. Each decade has classics. Each decade has something that people remember.

The 80s had the Cure and the Smiths and David Bowie and Queen and The Pixies. And thats just rock. Incredible amount of quality music just there alone.

I don't think I even need to mention the 60s.

The 90s. Radiohead, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins just to name a few.

My point is this. What. The. ****. does this decade have that can even measure up to classics of the past?

I think in the UK the music scene is better than it has been in about 10 years. There are so many great bands around and talented sings and songwriters.......except James Blunt, he can go to hell.

Name them. None of them are great. Some of them are ok, but they're all very bland. None of them are very distinctive.

People always say the current decade sucks, but then when they look back they say, hey it wasn´t so bad. Personally, I hated and still hate everything about grunge, to me it was no better than emo.

There has been a lot of great music this decade:
Green Day
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Audioslave
System Of a Down
Weezer
Tool

Good music stopped right around 1992 - 93. After that, all we got was a slew of boy band prancing sissies and midrift , belly shirt wearing Madonna wannabes. And we still have that today.

The 80's was the best and most diverse period for all genres of music. R&B, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Techno........you name it.

Well, I lived in the eighties and back then all the "cool people" were saying it was the worst decade ever and the sixties and seventies ruled...

Every decade has its crappy bubblegum pop. When Madonna first came out, she was no different from Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson. We had some of the first boy bands, like Menudo. We had Cindy Lauper and Nina Hagen, for Chrissakes...

I think the Klaxons are different from Damien Rice or Coldplay is different to Amy Winehouse or Jaime T is different to The Kooks.

Here are British music acts they I am listening to at the moment
Bloc Party
Editors
Hadouken!
The Horrors
Hot Club De Paris
Janie T
Kasabian
Klaxons
Mark Ronson
Muse
The Pigeon Detectives
Pull Tiger Tail
Plan B
The Sunshine Underground
Test Icicles

Coldplay, Oasis

I'll give you Coldplay, though they are starting to suck and need to do something a little different. I mean, all the UK bands out now are copying Coldplay for crying out loud. We only need one Coldplay.

Oasis haven't done anything good since the 90s. Though Oasis are classics, I always considered them over-rated.

Suck.

Their last good album was Californication. Everything afterwords sucks.

Rage Against The Machine was better.

Haven't really listened to them.

Suck.

Aren't they more 90s?

They're all '90s bands who were even large in this decade. That was my point.

I haven't heard of about half of those. I like what I've heard of Bloc Party. Maybe I'll give the rest a listen.

I don't care about the music on the bestselling charts, but thanks to Internet and sites like www.melodicrock.com I can often find new bands playing the music I like. The only thing that sucks today is that I think many bands doesn't get the attention they deserve, because they play "wrong" music.

They´re getting a little repetitive, but a lot of great bands have creative ups and downs, I´m a big fan of U2 but I really can´t stand some of their stuff. Well, Coldplay is being copyed a lot but that happens to any band that´s a big hit.
