Marvel has released an adjusted release schedule for its upcoming slate of films, confirming a May 2011 release for Spider-Man 4, and changed dates for Thor, Captain America and The Avengers.

As the press release below reads, the new dates push Thor and The Avengers back a year each, allowing for more production time. The move of The Avengers also clears up the question of how it and Captain America could be in production at the same time while (presumably) starring the same actor as Captain America. It should be noted too, that moving The Avengers release to 2012 takes it out of direct opening weekend competition with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Marvel's press release reads:

Paving the way for the production and release of its multi-character superhero film, THE AVENGERS, Marvel Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: MVL), announced today an adjusted release pipeline for its self-produced feature film properties that reflects the first time individual Super Hero characters and story arcs will be inter-woven and culminate in a multi-character motion picture. Separately, Marvel Studios confirmed today that Sony Pictures Entertainment will release SPIDER-MAN 4 on May 6, 2011. Additionally, Marvel Studios has revised the release dates for THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA as part of its release strategy for an uninterrupted road to THE AVENGERS, now debuting May 4, 2012.

A Marvel character-based film will now launch the summer box office season for three years in a row, from 2010 through 2012.

“This new schedule strongly sequences Marvel’s movie debut dates, big screen character introductions and momentum. It maximizes the visibility of our single character-focused films, leading to the highly anticipated release of the multi-character THE AVENGERS film in 2012,” said David Maisel, Chairman, Marvel Studios.

Sony Pictures’ and Marvel Studios’ SPIDER-MAN 4 is slated for May 6, 2011. To date, all three motion pictures in the phenomenally successful SPIDER-MAN franchise have generated nearly $2.5 billion worldwide theatrically.

Below is Marvel Studios’ 2010-2012 updated release schedule for its slate of self-produced and financed feature films:

Marvel Studios Feature Film Pipeline
Film/Character - Prior Release Date - Current Release Date
IRON MAN 2 - May 7, 2010 - May 7, 2010
THOR - July 16, 2010 - June 17, 2011
THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA - May 6, 2011 - July 22, 2011
THE AVENGERS - July 15, 2011 - May 4, 2012

The release date for IRON MAN 2 remains unchanged. IRON MAN 2 is the sequel to the blockbuster film, IRON MAN, which has grossed nearly $600 million worldwide.

I dont see Marvel making TIH 2 for 2012, so 2013 is the earliest and thats 5 years since the first one came out, why not wait a couple more years and start again? Norton doesnt seem like he likes working with Marvel

I think not releasing the Directors Cut like they said they were gonna, really hurt this movie.

no one said anything about a directors cut, i've been following this movie since it started shooting and have not heard Marvel say anything about a director cut

Well, in that case you'd probably know better than me but i coulda swore they said they were gonna release a DC reinstating all of that missing material they chopped out.
To placate Norton (not to mention slightly pissed off fanboys)

nah, i think the dvd they released had all the deleted scenes, they just didnt add them back in. The Norton cut was, i think, 15mins longer and had more story in it, like the character of Samson has a bigger role in that, but Marvel tought they had a better idea and cut the version we saw. I dont think a DC was ever promised or spoken of, Marvel gave us all the deleted scenes with the dvd they put out for TIH.

I have to admit, it doesn't look good for maintaining the cast as is. I wish they would at least comment of the status. I mean, the Hulk's franchise is "on the fence". Give the fans a way to lean.

As for a directors cut, I think Sava is right. LL even said that the movie we got in the theater is the "director's cut"; but we all know that isn't right since both he and Norton submitted a version 15min longer (and Marvel, that would have made the movie even better).

I say thank the lord.

i'm tired of these bastardisations of the character.

they should get the guys who did the first series of tas to do a hulk story. those eps are so much better than the films

especially the last 3 parter ep of the first series.

yeah we can forget about a hulk 2 or norton returning for the avengers. marvel really screwed this sh** up for us fans. :cmad:

That's really unfortunate for us Hulk fans.

I actually enjoyed both films. And wouldnt mind another go, though that apparently isnt going to happen anytime soon. :(

There's always that rumour he's gonna be one of the bad guys in The Avengers.
This news goes some ways to validating that.

Yeah you guys called it... Norton is gone. Hulk franchise is dead. Damn shame really... I was hoping they'd get an additional two pics out of Norton including Avengers. No way Marvel brings him back four years after the last film.

what the heck happened to the hulk thread? he is not important anymore? :o

dammit....Hulk is unappreciated cuz it didn't do Iron Man numbers they sleep on it. But the thing is they kind of messed up cuz they put Hulk and Iron Man out too close together. Should have released Hulk this year or the August of last Summer

Maybe we'll get a Hulk sequel after Avengers. A lot can be decided in 3-4 years.

yeah but why close the entire hulk thread? there are still two movies to talk about. i feel ripped as a fan to be honest.

It's not gonna happen. They did not make enough of a profit. Hulk had two chances... they failed. I really thought we'd have an outside shot for a sequel in 2012. Maybe Marvel can still fit a film in there. Unlikely since SM5 may be done back to back and will take a mid June 2012 release where TIH 2 would have gone. Plus we know now that Marvel does not have to do two films a year. They will concentrate solely on Avengers. Banner will probably be recasted though.

Maybe Marvel will answer Fox's plans for an FF reboot with a Hulk sequel. That'd show em. :oldrazz:

Either way, I refuse to give up hope. Hulk's future is in the Avengers hands now. It's not over.:bh:

It's too bad about TIH 2, because the first one was well-done and if it were the first Hulk movie, I think the reception would've been much better. Oh well.

This is outrageous. Uber crappy movies get sequels, and this doesn't. Incredible Hulk was my favorite last year.

This is the biggest piece of bull **** that's been posted this year. :cmad:

Thats true.
Four Saw sequels and a Fifth planned for this year and Hulk's been dropped TWICE!

There are THREE Underworld movies for **** sake!

The hulk will probably be a big part of the first avengers movie.

Some of you guys need to calm the heck down.

You want to know why they keep making SAW movies? They are dirt cheap to make and they make a lot of money.

TIH probably costs quadruple of one SAW movie, think about that.

It's not as simple as to say that. Not when bilge like the fast and the furious is currently on it's THIRD sequel.
