Dorkyfresh Sketches and Drawings

thanks a lot duker jay....i didn't know about the whole camera obscuar thing. i really appreciate the comments fellas. i'm gonna be posting more stuff here within the next few days...so keep an eye out.

i think it looks great, traced or not. tracing isn't an easy thing by any means, and i agree with duker jay about line weight and stuff.

i didnt know what a camera obscura was until you described it, then i kinda knew what you were talking about. it reminds me of this thing i had when i was little. its a blue piece of plastic that u stand up between a pic and a piece of paper and it reflects the image onto the paper so u can trace, only everything's inverted.

Well, I won't go into too much detail about camera obscuras because you can just look up information on the internet easily enough but, basically it's latin for Dark Room.

From what I've learned there are two main types of a camera obscura...one is a smaller desktop intrument and one can be an actual room.

If you've ever watched the movie "Girl with a Pear Earring" (which is about Johannes Vermeer) you see the desktop version in that.

In short, you set up a scene that is projected onto your paper or canvas and you trace it out to get your proportions and angles. It's also how they were able to get the intricate patterns and embroideries of clothes or elaborate chandeliers...or so it's been hypothesized.

Anyways...nice work, DF.

thanks for the info duker jay, that's really interesting. i havent seen the movie, but i have heard of it.

great job Dorkyfresh

dorky, is it hard to do something like the marilyn picture? i'd like to try and do that to some photos i have.

got any tips? or maybe some tutorials that could help me out? i'm trying to learn this photoshop thing, and that looks like something interesting that i'd like to try and do.

it depends on how good you are with a pencil and if you have a drawing tablet for your computer. VERY LITTLE photoshop is involved really....most of that is just figuring out what kind of technique to use, what kind of lines to make, and all that good stuff. i had fun with it because the style i used for the marilyn picture is a little different than the style i normally use...

...but yeah, most of the work from in that drawing is technique and not really photoshop work. it's almost like drawing on tracing paper....except the original image is much easier to see in photoshop...hehe.

i've been thinking about getting a tablet one day, when i'm rich and can actually afford one lol.

i did goof around with some pics on photoshop and put a layer over it and drew with the line tool. but it wasnt the same and i am clueless when it comes to stuff like that anyway lol. i'll get the hang of it one day

Keep at it, DF! I'm drawing and working on a story of my own, so I'm investing and putting in as much as I can! You'll do fine.:)

hmmm...guess no one likes my Superman.....oh well...

...i'm workin' on a piece dedicated to Dane Cook right now. i'm sure some of you know, but just in case you didn't...Dane Cook had like a 15 second role in Myster Men as 'the Waffler'. here's my take on him doing Dane Cook's 'SUPERFINGER' or 'Su-Fi'.

I have that film his scene is so dumb but funny still, my favorite part is when he burns his face with the waffler.

"i am the waffler.....with my griddle of justice, i bash the enemy over the head...or.......burn them like so! tssssss aaaahhh!!!

i also have my truth serum, which is....low in fat. i even have a theme song...it's kinda like...

WAFFLE MAN!!!! extra crispy, bad guys are histry!"

yup...

...it's funny, i originally thought the movie was stupid...but then i came to my senses and actually watched the movie and found myself liking it.

I recently got it for christmas and I love it I actually remembering seeing it in theaters and it was one of my favorite movies as a kid.

ive never seen the movie but i've seen dane on comedy central and he is hilarious

Dear Dorky,
hello. we used to converse more when i had the screen name PHOENIX_PAE--- i was on here when it was mainly: ghrendal, drakon, incredible bob, daredevil and a few others. The main ones that is. but i never told you how much i love your pencils! I love them! you face expresssion def. put many to shame. BUt why dont you ever do backgrounds? and what do you do for coloring? cause both of those catagories lack horribly in your work. I would love to see you pic up a coloring method that you can really rock out for some finished illustrations! and are back grounds a weakness for you? they certainly are for me. anyways... not trying to be rude... i love your work, just curious

sup dude, i think i remember you....phoenix_pae DOES look familiar. but yeah...backgrounds are a pain for me, hehe. i really SHOULD get used to doing backgrounds even if they're just sketches. my colors aren't really bangin' cuz i didn't put all my effort into it. i don't mean to brag, but i'm capable of much better. i don't know if you saw my batman begins contest entry (and i don't mean to be a show off or anything) but here...

....that's what i consider to be probably my best piece of art. that's what i can do when i get it my all. i think i have, at least, decent grasp on coloring...but i think i'm always gonna have problems with backgrounds, hehe...

I think back to the 'Sauron's Demise' piece and the colouring on that one.

I dont know if you're still working on that one, DF, but that was maybe some of the finest colouring I've seen, professional or otherwise.

i think i just creamed myself! nice job! okay... well that does some of my questions up

lol...thanks guys...

...i've been f***ing around with 3d Studio Max a little bit. i need to get back into 3d if i want to keep my job. anywho, i know some of you might not care but here's something i dished out earlier today...
